My entry:

Some impressions from my area, in the middle of Germany, only 15 minutes from the former border between East and West Germany.  

Many of the places are not accessible by car, so I often hiking or go with my mountainbike, mostly I have the P4P in my backpack, sometimes the little Spark too.

  

  

My tips:

Charge battery, do not forget the memory card.
Nothing is more annoying when you notice: memory card  forgotten or the batteries are empty. :-)  

Collect infos about the area you fly.
Observe the laws. Can I fly here without hesitation, do I not disturb anyone and do I have a good view to my drone?

Check your drone

Propellers ok and locked, is the lens clean, is the battery properly locked.

Wait for the right light and shot with sun in back

For good and warm colors the best time is after sunrise and before sunset.

For epic sunsets, of course, also directly into the sun :-)  

Watch the weather  

so after thunderstorms or rain showers the air is very clear and the recordings gain in brilliance.

In summer, after nocturnal rain, get up early - after that, the landscape is often shrouded in fog fields that can only be seen early.  

Look around  

When you have your shots - look around. From up there is a lot to discover

100m limit

Here in Germany: maximum 100m high. I've never need more. Many new perspectives open up after just 30m, for buildings etc.. If I want a wider view, i use the panorama mode

90 degrees, shot directly down

often opens new perspectives

The pictures above are all developed in Lightroom only. The photographers earlier also went to their photo labs and used various tools and tricks to enhance their photos.
Why should one not use these on the PC today? Lightroom is a great tool for me to express my feeling on location, the mood later in the finished picture.
For me, a picture consists of 25% preparation, 40% image, 10% luck and 25% development on the PC.

For the first picture, the fortress Rosenberg in the fog (20 minutes away from my home), I waited more than a year for this mood. I have watched the weather, early in the morning always checked the webcams in the area, etc
I often use the Phantom 4Pro and only RAW, the large sensor simply offers a lot more possibilities in the later development.
But i like my Spark too, for larger hikings this little Thing is perfect.

Of course, I also use Photoshop, for photo montage or error retouching

Matthias, don't get me wrong. Whatever fancy you it's OK. We're all different, otherwise the life will be boring. However, such radical image tweaking is just not up to my taste, that's all. Other than that, the efforts on your side to get just the raw images are applause worthy.

It's not about fooling anyone, for me, the pictures give a mood again the snow and the rain fit well here an if it looks like it's real, that seems to me to have succeeded.

No, not at all. The snow was added later, as well as the rain. This is possible with a double exposure and Lightroom.

With so much snow or moisture, the glass would fog up or the focus would not work.

I love the first two in particular. I'm definitely going to try and make my own version of the red/white car one. A very cool idea.

Great pictures and explanation. I am in Germany until Aug and would like to take my Mavic for a spin. I was told there is a restriction to fly Drones in Germany due to privacy concerns.
I am not able y find reliable information in English. Can you please guide me to find a good place to fly by drone?

The above request is in regards to flying drone in Munich area. Also any surrounding areas as well since I plan for some sightseeing

Hi,

Munich? ...no way.
For flights over private areas, the permission of the owner must be obtained. Flights directly in cities like Munich are as good as impossible or only with a fee-based individual approval to get.

Drones are not allowed to fly higher than 100 meters above ground.
A drone insurance is mandatory.
Drones are allowed to approach a maximum of 100 meters of sensitive areas. These include Federal highways, crowds, police properties and consulates.
At airports, keep at least 1.5km distance
Starting at 250 grams, your drone needs a fireproof badge.
Flying in nature reserves is not allowed.
