Sadly the process is quite involved and changes depending on what difficulties I run into but in all cases the panorama consists of two separate panos, one of the ground from the P4 and the other shot from a D810 with fisheye on the ground of the sky. The two finished panoramas are then brought together. I'm using Kolor AutoPano Giga for the stitching (that can be a black art in itself, even after the 12 or so years I've been using it!)

Exposure is decided on a shot by shot basis whilst manually shooting the pano in the air. Gets more difficult in low sun where I've to take account of avoiding overlapping lens flare between shots and try get the stitcher eliminate them. The images are then pre-processed for exposure, sharpness, hot pixel removal before stitching.

I put in waaay more effort than some of the scenes justify but I like to try my best

Sorry not to have been able to give you a step by step guide. One more thing I should mention is that I'm using a fairly high-end workstation (Dual Xeon 12core 48GB RAM) for this work and it taxes the machine somewhat - it turns into a space heater when rendering! I've had it a few years now so it may be that newer mainstream machines are capable of similar performance. AutoPano Giga was the reason I had to get a decent machine.

I usually flew just over 100m above ground level. The sky was taken with a separate camera on the ground to make a complete sky panorama. The hard part was bringing the two panoramas together seamlessly!

Yes, i thought it was something like that, question is how do you merge the sky onto the black hole so seamlessly.

It is like pixel perfect

I wish AutoPano Giga was still a current product. I was able to get the sky panorama to be part of the whole stitched image, the blender taking some persuasion to treat both sky and ground panoramas as one image within AutoPano.

The source images needed careful prep to make the blender‘s job easier.

I’d been doing 360s for about a decade when I started doing these and they still remain the most challenging image works I’ve done. I’ve not found anything that matches AutoPano for this work.

I miss doing these…

I have dabbled in 360 myself for a while but nothing compared to the quality you have being doing.

Yes, it is a pity about Kolor no longer around it was a serious bit of kit.

Have you tried PTGui? I find it quite good.

360 gave me a lot of enjoyment but it I think someone was trying to tell me something when my panorama head manufacturer (made to suit camera) went out of business, Kolor shut down and drones were getting uncomfortable regulatory attention!

I've tried PTGui without success for this type of work but I see V12 has recently been officially released. I must have another look at it.

I rely heavily on Kolor's keep/remove ghost removal feature and I need to revisit PTGui to see what they are doing with optimum seam placement. Kolor's seam placement is open to suggestions via keep/remove markers, making nice skies somewhat easier!

Speaking of seam placement, here is what can happen when it goes horribly wrong (rather too much of the sky pano crept in!)...
