Beautiful one!
If I'm not mistaken I see the remainings of an old railroad with an old bridge even.
(but then again, it might be my trainy eyes)

Well spotted - there was a rail viaduct there but many years ago, it was turned into a footbridge by removing all but one upright metal side of the bridge and tipping it flat!

Here’s a map where you can adjust the transparency of the paper map over a satellite image.

Beautiful to see that old map.
I love these old maps and use them a lot to track (lost) railways that I think to have seen while driving somewhere.
One of my talents
(not that you can do anything with that :| )
looks like some kind of rail museum (the part that is still left).

I love these old maps too -it’s interesting looking to see what remains of the old rail infrastructure. You are correct about the remaining part being used for a museum; they run vintage trains on the weekends to a town called Brechin

Sometimes it makes me sad to see how much history was removed everywhere.

About 2 years ago I filmed at one of the last true diesel stations in NL (not really used as a station, only for passenger trains) that still had the feeling of the 80's when it was still fully in use.
It was a very weird and sad feeling to know that soon after this visit most of the tracks would be removed.

Too bad I did not have a drone back then...

It's sad indeed. To think that back in the day railways the veins through which industry flowed and the civic pride in their construction and maintenance would have been inspiring. Perhaps rose-tinted spectacles on my behalf as I never lived through it ;)

We have the same spectacles.
Sometimes I wish it was still the time when you re used a nail by hammering it straight again.
My grandfather used to be a carpenter and started his job as a 15yr old boy straightening reclaimed nails....
Man hours were cheap and waste was little in those days.
I know, I would not have a drone, PC, cellphone, DSLR etc. etc.
Not to forget good healthcare etc.
But I keep thinking: there must be a 'middle of the road' option. With less stress, pollution and less money driven people....

Funny you should mention man hours - where I live, many of the original houses and buildings are sandstone as are the remains of the former railway infrastructure. Every stone is hand carved and the effort that went into that is mind boggling.

Yes indeed.
Close to where I live is a channel that runs between Hattem and Apeldoorn (and on to Dieren) that was dug out by hand.....

It's great this time of year with rich colours and surprisingly good weather!

I'm using a Phantom 4 (the original version) which is holding up quite nicely

It was a depression, lots of hands for little money.
I do believe they had some machines to take away the sand.
