Hi.

Some articles mention these files.
They are located on SD card in MISC/IDX/idx*
(MISC folder is tagged as hidden)

By mistake, these are sometimes considered as flight logs, which in not correct.

However no article says what these files are used for.
On my P4P, they all have 6144 KB.

Anyone knows ... ?

Thanks,

Hi.

Well ... if they are saved on the card by the drone, there's certainly a reason.
If not, please provide details how you came up with, that they are of no use.
Thanks,

Because no-one has ever found a use for them.
Simply ignore them, delete them etc.
There's nothing you can do with them.

Format the SD card and they will be gone.... simple.

DJI create a lot of files on the SD card that might be of interest to DJI, but are useless to anyone else. And that's only the ones you can see, there are also a lot of hidden directories containing even more files. The trouble is thesae files are not self-scavenging, and eventually clog up your card. This is why a frequent format is a good idea to clear them out.

That's the fun thing, they get created by the aircraft right away, four files of identical size. you can format all you want, they appear again next time you look at the content.

But agree with the others, they are of no obvious use.

When you format the micro sd card, it should be wiped clean. Not sure what you are seeing.

If you check the size of the card memory, when empty, you will know...

I know, but you have to mount it in the aircraft to use it, and then the files are back.

Yes, just a part of the big picture. I can only imagine what those files are truly used for.
When people send their drone in for repair, there is a second micro sd card, inside the drone...
So even if you remove the data card, they can still see your history, to a point.

A had a bit of time ...

There are 4 idx files: idx00, idx01, idx10, idx11.

They are located in /MISC/IDX. MISC and IDX folder are flagged hidden. The idx files themselves don't carry the hidden flag.

idx files are created when SD card is formatted (inside the drone). At that time, they are all identical (md5sum)!

The pairs idx00/idx01 and idx10/idx11 are exact copies (md5sum), probably for redundancy purpose.

idx files are only touched (write/modify) when a video clip is taken. Photo shots don't change anything!

A hex editor showed that:
idx0* takes care of the /DCIM folder.
idx1* takes care of the /MISC/THM folder.

What the exact purpose is, I still don't know. But it seems to keep records of the last (!) video clip taken, as well as its thumbnail.

Just nothing to be concerned about...
