Hello everybody,

Here is some footage from my last trip to Thailand, I'm not a professional video maker or anything like that, so I edited the video the way i could.

Concerning tips to this country.

Drone laws in Thailand have been changing since last year and could be quite confusing for some people, the best advice I can give is to get help from a local friend for the registration and everything else. there is many misinformation about the actual rules over internet and even some report of local police scam. sad but true. like i said, the best is to get a thai friend to help you out, maybe borrow you a drone or even fly your drone for you on the worst case. which still better than nothing.

About video editing.
As i mentioned before, I am just a amateur with a hobby, youtube is really full of ressources and you can basically find any tutorial of anything, not just video editing but everything, from how to export a file on premiere pro or how to connect your Tello to a wi-fi extender.
Watch other people editing skills, get inspired, copy, transform, combine.

My next Travel tip: get yourself a DJI/RYZE Tello.

By now, we all know why drone regulations came and in some country the came hard, before the drone era, we used to fly those RC helicopters in clubs, then drones came out, all stabilization built in, no skill required, so everybody got a drone for christmas and it becomes the wildwest. Now my next stop is Japan, and guess what? regulation, authorisation and tutti quanti. the good old times of "you go somewhere and you take your drone" is over, today you need to plan your "drone trip".
I can understand, the story tells that they find a drone in the roof of Japannese Prime minister office, I think he got mad, no drones are allowed in many places. specially in Tokyo.
Japan regulation apply for 200grams and up, so yes, I'm goin to get some nice pics around as the law say that tello its just a toy.

The 720p EIS video in this little 80grams quadcopter is fair to watch from a phone, fligth stabilization is good, the pictures are realy nice. you can get really amazing shots.
Surprises me how he can handle wind, the feeling of "go somewhere and take my drone" is back, kinda.
The IR sensor is useless on night time and the absence of a SD card makes the video choppy. The fligth time is abouts 11 to 13 minutes.
So my wish for christmas is a Tello 2, something between the Spark and the Tello, not more than 200 grams, with 1080p EIS camera and a SD card slot.

Bonus pictures from the Tello:
Club renaissence.

Thank you guys to take the time to read my post, I apologize for my not so fluent English, and wish a good fly to everyone.

็Good morning,

@MavicRich I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that the video footage comes from a Mavic that A friend borrow to me (I used to be RC helicopter pilot), the pictures comes indeed from the Tello.

@DMX_MT this is the second time I edit a video. Basically I just  change brightness down and contrast up. Also, I used a black bar on top and down with a .Jpeg that i create in Microsoft paint, this give me a margin on the video that i can play with, like zoom out, scale or rotate the footage  without showing the edges. everything else i just learn in youtube.

Another TIP: Stay away from theses 10 minutes youtube tutorials,  The dude spend 10 minutes to explain how to put black bars in his tutorial video... this is a joke, that should take 30 seconds to explain. Like the tutorial to do the " this is epic" animation its a 10 minute video but the real tutorial is just  4 minutes long ( )

Imagine yourself working the whole day, then you came back to home to do a video editing, you spend 2 hours watching youtube to learn something that could take 20 minutes...It just dont fit in my schedule no more.

Hi People.

I just got some fresh information about the Drone Thai laws.

The current law is really confusing and causing many problems among locals and tourist, specially concerning the registration time that is taking right now up to 4 months, yes, you read that right 4 months.... Aware of that the government is changing (again) the law to help people go through the process faster by a online registration on this Web Site : (there is even a count down which is kinda funny )

https://www.caat.or.th/uav/undercon/

Also i Want to point that there is a NO flight zone around Bangkok from the official CAAT ( Civil Aviation Authority Thailand ) marked on this picture here:

A insurance is also going to be necessary that should cost around 30 USD per year, more information will come soon when the web site countdown is over. and I will bring them here in this post.

Thank you.

Hello everyone.

Here is a resume from the new updates on the laws in Thailand. there is not much things that have changed and is still a little confusing, but we do have good news: processing time of the authorization is now set to 15 days by the new online application.

First thing to know is that ANY drone with a camera need to be registered, doesnt matter the weigth. Phantom, Spark, Tello. ANYONE
Second thing on the list is a Drone insurance against damage, medical expense or death as required on the Thai law.
This one here needs to cover 1,000,000 THB minimum, could be done on your home country by the company of your choice that includes Thailand as a coverage area or in Thailand by a local insurance company. Your insurance policy must contain the serial number of your drone and your personal information.

If you dont know where to apply for a insurance you can try to apply for one in this link : http://www.dronethaiinsurance.com/plan.html
Note that the page is all THAI, you can use google translation in chrome browser to make things simple by rigth click one the page and "translate the page"

Here in this very website, the plan A it covers your drone damage, medical expense and death up to 1,000,000 THB just as required. the price is 3,000 THB per year.

Please note that i did not make an extensive research of the many insurance company avaliable in Thailand and I do not have any affiliation with this very one, however, I did call them to make sure that they have english speaking personel to process a insurance request in english language. the inquiry can be done by e-mail and take 24 hours.

Third thing is that you will need to contact 2 different places to get the rigth to fly your drone. note that those 2 institutions are NOT linked together.

Place (1) : CAAT - Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand
Here is about getting your "pilot liscence". now you can apply for a online registration by following this link here: https://www.caat.or.th/uav/index.php
The online form to fill is in both Thai and english. is very straigth foward and self explanatory. the page looks like this:

However, there is 2 remarks i need to talk about, first one is that despite the fact that you will be doing a online form, you will also need to download a paper form, fill out the form and upload back the paper form on the online form. make sense? (The link of the "self declaration form" will be available for download on the online form itself)

You also gonna need to upload pictures from your drone with serial number that they can match with the drone insurance
and you will need to upload your insurance drone policy in English.

Second remark is that on the online form they will ask the purpose of the flight, (recreational and sports / aerial and video photografy providing live traffic / photografy, filming and TV program / science and research).
So, if you got a camera and want to record something or take a picture you MUST choose both : "receational and sport" AND "photography, filming and TV program"

Everything else is self explanatory and straight foward like i said.
Once is all done, they will e-mail you back the authorization in around 15 days that you need to carry with you all the time, like a driving licence.

Note that you cannot apply for this form from your home country since you will need to upload a copy of your VISA on Arrival with a copy of your passeport on the online form.

Place (2) : NBTC - Nacional Broadcasting and Telecommunication Thailand Commission
Here is about your remote control registration, something to do with radio transmission waves. - this step must be done in person, and it will take about an hour, you need to find a representation in (สำนักงาน กสทช) NBTC Office go there with your equipment, passeport, VISA on Arrival and picture of your drone and remote control showing up serial numbers printed on A4 paper.
having a local friend to help you out fill the forms will be a plus, since all forms are in Thai language at this moment but probabely will soon be in english anytime soon.

NBTC head quarter Bangkok adress
87 Phahonyothin Alley, Khwaeng Samsen Nai, Khet Phaya Thai, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10400 Call Center 1200

Dont go rogue, the fines are high on case of regulation disrespect, specially that the whole process is free (except for the inssurance)
I know this is long and borring to do but here is a Pic of my GF Doge to cheer you up

I hope this will help you out and thanks everyone for the nice comments on my post and again sorry for some mispelling errors.

P.S: the pics from Bahamas air-crash site are not mine. its from google images just to show up the place.

@PeterCO , I didn't know binoculars of those kind are a thing, technology never stops, plus you wont need to spend a day running after authorizations to use them and still can get your HD video as a souvenir.
talking about video, this contest just makes me realize that editing a video from your last adventures is the best way to compile 3 months in 3 minutes, because to be honest, nobody watch 3 hours of holidays raw footage anyway.
