Hello everyone.
Here is a resume from the new updates on the laws in Thailand. there is not much things that have changed and is still a little confusing, but we do have good news: processing time of the authorization is now set to 15 days by the new online application.
First thing to know is that ANY drone with a camera need to be registered, doesnt matter the weigth. Phantom, Spark, Tello. ANYONE
Second thing on the list is a Drone insurance against damage, medical expense or death as required on the Thai law.
This one here needs to cover 1,000,000 THB minimum, could be done on your home country by the company of your choice that includes Thailand as a coverage area or in Thailand by a local insurance company. Your insurance policy must contain the serial number of your drone and your personal information.
If you dont know where to apply for a insurance you can try to apply for one in this link : http://www.dronethaiinsurance.com/plan.html
Note that the page is all THAI, you can use google translation in chrome browser to make things simple by rigth click one the page and "translate the page"
Here in this very website, the plan A it covers your drone damage, medical expense and death up to 1,000,000 THB just as required. the price is 3,000 THB per year.
Please note that i did not make an extensive research of the many insurance company avaliable in Thailand and I do not have any affiliation with this very one, however, I did call them to make sure that they have english speaking personel to process a insurance request in english language. the inquiry can be done by e-mail and take 24 hours.
Third thing is that you will need to contact 2 different places to get the rigth to fly your drone. note that those 2 institutions are NOT linked together.
Place (1) : CAAT - Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand
Here is about getting your "pilot liscence". now you can apply for a online registration by following this link here: https://www.caat.or.th/uav/index.php
The online form to fill is in both Thai and english. is very straigth foward and self explanatory. the page looks like this:
However, there is 2 remarks i need to talk about, first one is that despite the fact that you will be doing a online form, you will also need to download a paper form, fill out the form and upload back the paper form on the online form. make sense? (The link of the "self declaration form" will be available for download on the online form itself)
You also gonna need to upload pictures from your drone with serial number that they can match with the drone insurance
and you will need to upload your insurance drone policy in English.
Second remark is that on the online form they will ask the purpose of the flight, (recreational and sports / aerial and video photografy providing live traffic / photografy, filming and TV program / science and research).
So, if you got a camera and want to record something or take a picture you MUST choose both : "receational and sport" AND "photography, filming and TV program"
Everything else is self explanatory and straight foward like i said.
Once is all done, they will e-mail you back the authorization in around 15 days that you need to carry with you all the time, like a driving licence.
Note that you cannot apply for this form from your home country since you will need to upload a copy of your VISA on Arrival with a copy of your passeport on the online form.
Place (2) : NBTC - Nacional Broadcasting and Telecommunication Thailand Commission
Here is about your remote control registration, something to do with radio transmission waves. - this step must be done in person, and it will take about an hour, you need to find a representation in (สำนักงาน กสทช) NBTC Office go there with your equipment, passeport, VISA on Arrival and picture of your drone and remote control showing up serial numbers printed on A4 paper.
having a local friend to help you out fill the forms will be a plus, since all forms are in Thai language at this moment but probabely will soon be in english anytime soon.
NBTC head quarter Bangkok adress
87 Phahonyothin Alley, Khwaeng Samsen Nai, Khet Phaya Thai, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10400 Call Center 1200
Dont go rogue, the fines are high on case of regulation disrespect, specially that the whole process is free (except for the inssurance)
I know this is long and borring to do but here is a Pic of my GF Doge to cheer you up
I hope this will help you out and thanks everyone for the nice comments on my post and again sorry for some mispelling errors.
P.S: the pics from Bahamas air-crash site are not mine. its from google images just to show up the place.
