I recently published since my Phantom 3 pro is grounded awaiting a firmware and DJI Go update.

I have two options as to continue my awaiting projects:

1- Acquire a second hand (very good state) Inspire 1 that seems to not have major update issues.
2- Go for a phantom 4 pro (new).

So, my question is (since I prefer the inspire option) :
If I acquire the Inspire 1, will I face update problems to come?
Or will I be OK to hope for 5 years more of flight if I get no flight incident (being a good pilot)?

Thanks in advance for your input and advice.

André

Please answer... If not I will feel like other users. And think that something 'evil' is hiding under the latest updates...

Why not post this in the Inspire section?

Where other aspiring drone pilots can share their personal experience of Inspiration...

Forget the paranoia about updates, it's not justified.
Most users have no issues at all.
Get whatever drone you want.

Thanks guys. I read the posts in the Inspire 1 section and yes it was motivating the idea of a change. I may therefore use your recommendation RedHotPoker and post there. ;) I will try downgrading my IOS on the iPad. Since I now have green lights on the the drone and the remote. Perhaps that could make DJI Go work again. To: Labroides. Thanks, from what I read those without issues just didn't follow the updates. I guess the DJI literature trained me to always update after the winter season (which is too cold to fly here).  And I must admit, for 3 years constantly updating, I never faced such a firmware mess.  I hope I can make it fly again, or will send it to a specialist owning a drone repair shop.

If updating was the disaster you think it is, the forum would be almost nothing but complaints about it.
Lots of users update and have no problem.

Hi again Captain Labroides, just to be clear : are you a user? A promotional agent for DJI? Or a DJI employee? Because after reading many threads, I could agree to disagree about the latest update and the status of the actual DJI Go app. Cheers! ;)

The problem with reading all these threads are that the majority are written by people who come here after they have experienced a problem and are frustrated seeking help.  The tone is usually pretty negative and damning.  This will give you a false impression of the nature and extent of a problem.   Speaking for the thousands of other lucky users that haven't had a problem, we are woefully under represented.  Very few users post about what a wonderful time they are having and how they are not having a problem.  Like most things in life, if you have a problem, you tell on average another 10 people about it, however if you are satisfied, you are lucky if you tell 2 or 3 people about your experience.

I'm sure if you apply the same logic to an examination of emergency workers views of society, more than three-quarters of the population are sick, criminal and live in burning houses.

I have owned around a dozen DJI drones. Inspire 1, Inspire 2, Phantom 3s, 3P, P4P, Spark, Mavic and Mavic Air. (Tello also)
I have had no update issues with any of them in almost 4 years of flying.
If one follows the directions and takes their time, all is well.
I do not work for DJI, but am a private user.

Oh, and I should add that I recently bought an Autel Evo and a Parrot Anafi.
I was trying to test out the competition.
Both have been returned for refund.
Neither worked well.

Or to put it another way, if you only observe the human population in doctor's waiting rooms you get the idea that everyone is sick.
The forum is the doctor's waiting room for drone flyers.
It's easy to get a false impression here.

I agree with all the captains.. Having lived in Asia for 7 years and being married to a Singaporean offers me a different insight on companies like DJI (and the doctor's Asian waiting room). I therefore spoke to a higher officer at Apple and launched an official feedback. If IOS 11.4 is the cause, Apple should take care of it. If DJI Go is the cause and doesn't follow Apple developer guidelines, then Apple could make them loose face and they will have all the App Store user feedback to establish a case and rule.  I will therefore temporarily ground my Phantom (with brand new DJI original carbon fiber propellers) and test an Inspire 1 this afternoon. Thanks for all your feedback and I will hope for a quick Apple - DJI resolution for this case.

Update : I tested the latest DJI Go app that's installed on my iPad mini 2 on one of the two remotes of an Inspire 1. It flew and showed the camera So this means DJI Go on IOS 11.4.1 can work. But the second remote for the camera (the slave one) wouldn't connect. You guys think this is also a firmware issue? I was thinking to send it also to a drone fixing expert. Makes sense to you guys? Thanks!

Did you try reconnecting or "re- pairing" it again?  Sometimes the connection and other settings are forgotten after an update.

FYI - you are correct about "Labroides" being a quasi-agent for DJI. He is pretty much the resident shill around here.

Sure, the shill who regularly calls out the questionable help and advice from some DJI moderators, and who has previously been banned for calling out idiots.  His advice is pretty accurate and helpful to many who respect his opinion.  That doesn't mean he supports everything DJI does.  It also doesn't make him a shill because he agrees with them.

You are so right about the forum.  I just flew my 199th flight with my P3A and just love it.  I have crashed it twice  (pine tree and ball-field net) - both times 100% my bad.  Fortunately it was okay.  With 3D goggles on, it is like I am a hawk flying between, trees and the like.  It is a great flying camera.

Oh Boy! This morning I could bite in the doctor's waiting room... Frustration! You see I sent the drone and the remote to a top local subject authority : a sort of commander / captain that repairs. The remote is firmware 'bricked'. According to him it installed without installing fully over WiFi being dispatched by DJI Go. Now : Buying a used remote could come to roughly the same price as sending to DJI in L.A. He says the hint is that the green light always flashes. To DJI : Could you consider releasing a 'Mister Clean' type of firmware. A firmware to erase all bad firmware installs so one can reinstall at a fresh restart. After all, I understand other users. When it's not their fault and it's DJI's codes and methods, you should have a solution for all bad variables to offer to your clients. Anyhow... Have an Inspire to lift off the ground temporarily, but I hope I can continue using my great Phantom without need to buy remotes every time DJI hires an intern to program their firmware updates.
