Video Lag + Autolanded....R.I.P. My Drone

For the last two years I have been hoping DJI would fix the bug that causes a delay between what the drone sees and what is displayed on the phone. This drone worked perfect until the firmware update from two years ago and today that bug cost me my drone. Was going to do some shots of some land clearing I have going on to check my edges. Was probably no more than 100’ in the air when all the sudden the drone says “critical voltage landing”. Period. I was too low to be able to spend the time to try to hit the cancel. My first reaction was to get the drone in a spot where it would be ok to land. However, thanks to DJI never fixing the bug that causes the lag, there simply was not enough time for me to verify that it was in a safe place. By the time the lag caught up I was in the trees with no time to correct. I watched in horror on the display as it showed me (delayed of course) that I had way overshot where I thought I was at. When I first got the message I could physically see the drone but as it descended I lost sight of it and the lag made the display on my phone worthless. I heard a massive scream from the poor gearing in the motors as they were spinning on impact and were forced to stop in an instant. Fortunately at least I found the drone...was about 10 ft from a safe spot BUT THANKS TO THAT VIDEO LAG THAT DJI WONT FIX I had no way of knowing that until it was too late. Beware guys if yours is one of the drones that gets this lag. None of the fixes that people have proposed ever worked. It all started with a firmware update from two years ago...which we all know you can’t undo. Another flaw with DJI’s way of thinking. And the voltage drop that started all this...it didn’t really have one best I can tell. I have only ever seen that once before but was in a position to land it safely that time. So long drone. I had many hours of good flying with you.

A friend of mine updated his firmware back in March and every since his P3P has been grounded. We got a new sd card and downloaded the latest again and went thru the process several times but now it will not link. We have updated the app, used 3 different types of phones and an iPad. My video does not lag but pixalates and goes blank every few seconds and back on, not much fun to fly. Drone Junk Inc.

Beware guys if yours is one of the drones that gets this lag. None of the fixes that people have proposed ever worked.
There is a very simple fix that does work.
If you have a problem with video lag, it's caused by trying to run DJI Go on a phone or tablet that doesn't have enough performance and RAM.
The solution is to run it on an adequate phone or tablet.
That's simple and it works.

I had no way of knowing that until it was too late.
Having a critical voltage situation could be because you flew for too long without noticing or it could be because you launched with a partially discharged battery which would run down quicker than you would expect.

Labroides, I agree with your above Statement but I would like to add that background apps also cause lag And having an app call litchi,etc.. on the same device when running the DJI app also causes conflicts I have killed all background apps on my iPad min2 and have the same March update with no problems, no lag.

In fact you should not be running the DJI Go App when Litchi is running anyway. This has been known to cause conflicts for a long long time.

It’s running on an IPhone X so definitely nit that.

The voltage issue could be due to starting with a low battery. I can tell you this time the battery was only at about 45% but that was fine because it was only going to take me about 3 mins to do what I needed to do. I concede that the other time this happened was similar in that I started with a low battery because I just needed a quick shot.

Crossing my fingers: I am in the middle of a transplant surgery between my crashed drone and a spare parts drone. The spare was in perfect shape with a camera that would never index and something wrong with the electronics. On my crashed drone it blew my camera to pieces. Well I looked at the spare camera very close and realized part of it was bent. The reason it would not index is because it could not do a full motion check because the bend would not allow it to happen. I was actually able to straighten it out and put it on my crashed drone and verified it worked! I am halfway through transplanting the working guts of my crashed drone into the like new shell of the spare. I might fly again! We’ll see!

It has been posted so often on all forums I look at ... Do Not fly with partial charge battery AT ALL .. OK - a quick up and hop to verify AC works ... but not a flight ..

I get lag on my Nexus 7 Vers 2 with my P3P ... but it is not significant enough to do what OP reports ... so something is definitely wrong with his setup.

Ok the gods of flight were good. The transplant to the spare parts drone was a success and I’m back in flight. Won’t get this opportunity again so hopefully I’ll have trouble free days ahead. The firmware on the spare parts drone is 1.9.60 and guess what....no lag. Not so sure I want to upgrade it!

Many people do not update and have good success. So don't update.
