First time I've noticed them in years of watching Le Tour. Maybe because it's the first time I've had a MavicPP drone

Thank you for sharing! It would be nice if our Mavics were available in that colour too.

Aloha Roger,

     Never happen!

I didn't have the drones at the time, so this is a TV screen grab of Le Tour passing our house in 2015.
And below, the 25Km-to-go banner erected by our house

But I;m not obsessed

Do they restrict drones over the entire Tour de France? Seems quite impossible since it spans so many days and kms. Would be cool to follow the tour and make your own daily videos with handheld cameras and drones. I used to love watching the Tour de France every year on TV when the Americans had a strong (cheating) team.

France is already littered with no fly zones for drones. Add to that the ban on overflying crowds,  and the ever-present helicopters and police motorcycle outriders, it would make it foolhardy to attempt it for the recreational types like us.  Whether any accredited pilots have been involved, I couldn't say. Certainly a lot of the aerial photography from drones can rival that from helicopters these days, wouldn't you agree?

Absolutely, and last time I watched the Tour I could tell they were using drones and was pretty critical of their piloting skill. I did fly my Spark in France this year. Unfortunately the majority of our vacation was in Paris so pretty strict NFZ, but we did rent a car and drive to Normandy. I got some nice shots the first day but second day it was rainy and windy and only flew a little. So barely 2 days of drone flights in France. I would love to go back and rent a car and just drive the country and fly my drone. Sounds like a good time considering I already saw Paris. Cheers mate.

Nice work. Sensitive of you to hand carry the drone in the war graves rather than overflying them.
Pretty sure you had a few infractions of restricted airspace (for drones) around the Normandy beaches.
If you come over again, here is a handy site to refer to before flying:

https://www.geoportail.gouv.fr/d ... ur-drones-de-loisir

It's and interactive site, just type in the name of the place you're at, and you'll see if it's OK or not, to fly.
It's in French, but easy to navigate even if you don't speak the lingo.

I did refer to that interactive site before I went. I don't think I went into NFZ over Omaha Beach, but I think I crossed the road about a mile away from Mont-Saint-Michel into NFZ, but really it was probably less than 100 feet if I even crossed it at all. I tried my best not to break any rules considering France has pretty steep fines and penalties for unauthorized drone flights. Here's where I was on the map. You can even see that the cemetery is an open zone. I was surprised by that.

You should be safe from the drone police then
