Is there a way to lower the quality of the downlink video feed to get better connection at longer distances? I've looked everywhere and don't see the option but I could have sworn I saw that it was possible? Thanks.

Yes.  You have to change the channel setting to "custom", pick a channel and then move the slider to the desired quality
