Just about to purchase the Spark and wanted to know whether the Nexus 7 would be suitable to use with the controller - intend to hard wire them both

Hi, thank you for reaching DJI Forum. Unfortunately, the Nexus 7 phone is not compatible to run the app. We will coordinate this one with our engineers to have it test for developers to integrate the apps function to your device as well as different Android devices currently out in the market. I will be posting below the fully compatible list of devices. Thank you.

I use a nexus 7 all the time with no problem. I think it has to be 2013 version - not earlier.

Are you using OTG or wifi?  I have a Nexus 7  II (2103). It's the Full HD unit sometimes referred to as the Nexus 7 FHD. OTG works good, but wifi not so much. Stock Android Marshmallow, no other apps installed.

I always use OTG when flying the spark. Much better video transmission while flying.

I have stuck to using app 4.2.15, the last one to work with OTG before DJI disabled it.

Thanks - had intended to use an OTG connection with my Nexus 7 - can you tell me the maximum tablet size for fitting beneath the controller ?

With the RC arms fully extended I can just squeeze an iPad mini 2 between them. Size of the mini 2:
Height: 200 mm (7.9 in)
Width: 134.7 mm (5.30 in)
Depth: 7.5 mm (0.30 in)

I have a Nexus 7 ( 2012, version 1 whatever you want to call it) that I have experimented with...It is at the "edge" of being functional for the DJI app... It does work and will fly but only with OTG! VERY delayed signal/video feed otherwise. There is the "second" generation (2013) of the Nexus 7 that has double the ram and a stronger processor. THAT tablet is actually listed on the DJI list as tested and compatible, not the "first" (2012) version.I will add that I use the 4.1.15 version of the app
I normally use a Verizon "Ellipsis 8 HD"  when flying the drone and that is good.

Nexus 7 2013 or later works well for me using OTG and WiFi. (GO4 Mod 2)

You can make a slight mod to make it fit in the arms by filing a small arc in the plastic cover of RC unit

You're welcome. I set up my Nexus with Go4 Mod2 a long time ago. I never update it. I never connect to the net. I have had no problems so far. I only use my Nexus for 3 things - my Spark, my Deeper echo sounder, and my Kindle books.

I second the Go4 Mod, I have been using the "lite" version and have had no problems. I have tried each new version of the "official" app but The MOD app ( based on 4.1.15) is working the best for me

Great to have so much help to hand  -  should have an Ebay purchased Nexus 7  11 (2013) by next week and all being well, the Spark shortly thereafter - from what i'm reading and watching on youtube, i'll be connecting the controller to the Nexus using an OTG cable. I sound as if I know what I'm talking about but watch this space

You have a steep learning curve in front of you djiuser_3auQst3Xtb2V (like how to change your user name). Stick with it and don't give up. It will be worth it. Regarding OTG, read all the advice on here about which way to connect and in what sequence.

The Controller - am I right to think that by using a controller rather than just a phone, I will achieve a greater range ?

I believe that is the case but have not tested it. I have always used the controller. I would have less confidence using the 'phone on its own. Programs crash, batteries go flat, other software may interfere. It is also much easier and more responsive to use the joysticks than a touch screen [ I I have big arthritic fingers ] IMHO its not worth the risk.
