Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if Ronin-s firmware support is planned for the IDX Mark II? If so, what features will be supported, and how soon will these features be available?

Thanks!

James

Hi James, just to verify, do you refer to the 1DX-Mark II? If yes, our engineers are working on the improvement of RSS-IR cable reliability and developing USB shutter control. You may visit this link: https://docs.djicdn.com/Products+info/Ronin-S+Camera+Compatibility+List+0719.pdf

We haven't listed support through USB yet but "unofficially" it works for now. You have focus, start/stop, and shutter.

sumoadam I have it working with the supplied USB cable as well with my 1DX Mark II, however the focus half press just fine.  I do however tend to find the Start/Stop recording Single full press not consistent.  I sometimes just get focus for some reason.

Agree, definitely noticeable delays or inconsistent trigging of camera for video or stills, regardless of pre-focus which does work pretty well.  A bit buggy still.

Maybe it is a little offtopic but I'm curious if the 1Dx MkII is a nightmare to balance on the Ronin-S as it was on the Ronin-M even with dedicated extensions tubes.
I would often give up and leave it with a less than perfect balance letting the motors take care of it.

It balances just fine.

Is there anything I need to do with the settings to enable this? I am sure i tried it with the updated F/W but it didn't work.

I am running the latest Firmware for the Ronin-S and the 1DX Mark ii.

I plugged in the USB cable at it just worked.

Also, this is does not leverage the focus knob, only the Record button Half and full press.

No issues with 1dx2 + 24-70, 24-105, or even the 70-200 f2.8 II.  The 70-200 is probably pushing the limits, when you point the lens up it will eventually hit the eyepiece.  For this lens to balance you really have to push the horizontal adjust arm to the right (behind the camera) where it goes actually into that motor mount,   I don't think the balancing has to be dead perfect, even plugging in the cable after or adding a flash card will upset the balance.

Cool thanks, must be a pretty heavy setup for one hand with the 70-200, I know cuz I used that on the filed for years as a photographer and at the end of the day i could definitely feel it...

The 1dx is just plain heavy, then add a 24-70 the weight adds up.  Makes you think about using primes when the 24-70 f2.8 is 28.4oz vs. 24mm f2.8 prime is 9.5oz.  Even the cheap 50mm f1.8 is only 5.7oz.

Not the actual DJI cable but here is what you need to do.
