I am having some issues with my Osmo Mobile (1) and the motion timelapse.
The video it produces is 'only' 8Mb in bitrate.
(1080p)
That is way too low.
Can I change that somewhere in the app?

Sorry for the late response. The shooting capabilities of the Osmo Mobile depend on what type of mobile phone system you use. Unfortunately, some mobile devices may not be able to use the fully-optimized functions of the Osmo Mobile. But you may try to reinstall the app or use a different mobile device to check if it will change.

No problem.
In my opinion the iPhone SE should be good enough as it delivers very good video quality for 'normal' video on the DJI Go app.
So clearly there is something strange going on here.
Is there anything I can do to change the compression DJI Go uses for motion timelapses?

Video compression is the process of encoding a video file in such a way that it consumes less space than the original file and is easier to transmit over the network/Internet.

It is a type of compression technique that reduces the size of video file formats by eliminating redundant and non-functional data from the original video file.

So in essence the video quality is lowered (usually linked to lower bitrate)

DJI Go just has too much compression on these files. The files come straight from the memory.
Just like it sets the image quality to 'low'.
If you look at the bitrate
It is very low.
This results in ugly artifacts.

Look at the detail in the corner.


If you compare this bitrate to a shot taken with the same iPhone but via the Filmic Pro app, the bitrate is MUCH higher. (10x actually)


And here there is much less artifacts

A zoom in the corner.


So clearly the iPhone SE can deliver very decent images but DJI Go adds a lot of compression to the footage.
Please consult with the engineers if there is any way to overcome this, since it makes the footage pretty ugly.

Hi. Thank you for providing some samples. Did you check the files that are from your gallery? Because the one that's in your app is fixed in 720 resolution and it cannot guarantee the quality.

Yes!
You can see the resolution (it is in Dutch) is 1920 x 1080.

2020, Osmo Mobile 3, and the Hyperlapse quality it's still potato... It's not even decent for instagram stories. There should be an option to choose the bit rate. Videos are unusable.

The reason why I sold it.
If they ever release one with good motion timelapse output, I will buy it instantly.
Hope OP2 will be  better in that respect.

I even don't get it.
With timelapse there is so little data to process. It does not make sense to compress it so much.
Super weird design choice.

I'm sure that is some kind of bug.
PS, you can still use it with the regular camera app.
You don't need the mimo app per se.
