Hi pilots!
Four months ago I decided to modify the default P2 landing gear because I got annoyed by the legs (especially the left one) getting in sight of the GoPro lens on faster rotations. While this was more like kind of experimental and I apprehended this method could have an influence on video quality (more jello because of more vibrations) it turned out that this solution - at least for me - is the best I could have chosen. Just in case the mod wouldn't bring the benefit I expected I ordered a spare set of landing gear. This one is still in the box, I am happily flying my mod since then.
The short version:
Cut it!
The long version:
I documented the modification here:
http://labemi.com/dji-phantom-landegestell-modifikation/
Although this how-to is in German I illustrated the progress with lots of photos so it should be easy for you to understand.
The final result looks like this:
Benefits:
- Clear sight!
- Loss of weight (at least a little)
Drawbacks:
- Loss of stability (careful landings required)
- Increase of vibrations (especially directly after lift-off)
Having the GoPro attached to the H3-3D gimbal I didn't notice any influence of increased vibrations on the video quality. Either they are too subtle or the gimbal is doing a really great job.
I have a little video about this mod on youtube:

Let me know what you're thinking - and if you're having any questions on this mod don't hesitate to ask! :-)
Happy flights!
Lars
