OK. I didn't know. But it was the longest arch until 2001.
Although it is interesting why should anybody build the bridge of stones nowadays with all that technology available.
A stone bridge will last 2000 years, it is held together by gravity and gravity never fails.
A concrete bridge is normally held together by steel cables, eventually the steel or concrete fail, they are designed to last 100 years, maybe 200, but if they are Italian they can fall down sooner!
The stone bridge is better, but takes a lot more people and effort to build. China built a lot of big ones when their manpower was cheap around the year 2000, but now they no longer have cheap manpower they have had to give up and build concrete ones. |
