DJI -

The new Mavic 2 Pro specs and features are quite impressive - Hasselblad L1D-20c camera with 1-inch sensor and adjustable aperature (f/2.8–f/11), omnidirectional obstacle sensors (including upward and right/left - wow!), up to 31-min max flight time, 18 km max. flight distance, max 72 kph speed, Occusync 2.0 for up to 8 km max distance with 1080p video transmission, auto 2.4/5.8 GHz transmission band switching, and 20 MP photos with HDR capability. Congratulations on two impressive new products and additions to the DJI Mavic product line.

A few questions:
1) Is 4K/60p video NOT supported in H.264 mode as it is for the Phantom 4 Pro and Phantom 4 2.0 (specs only list a 4K/30p max frame rate)?
2) What is max forward/reverse speed in PGPS normal speed mode when forward/reverse obstacle sensing is active? and when obstacle sensing is turned off?
3) Has the gimbal motor been beefed up so that the gimbal is not overwhelmed by wind forces and tips over when flying aircraft sideways at speed as currently occurs with Phantom 4 Pro?

Hi. Thank you for reaching DJI Forum.

1. For Mavic 2 Pro, it supports only H.265. For Mavic 2 Zoom, it supports both H.264 and H.265.
2. Forward sensing: Effective Sensing Speed: ≤ 14m/s. For Backward: Effective Sensing Speed: ≤ 12m/s
4. Max Wind Speed Resistance is 29–38 kph

Yeah but it can't do 4k60fps which the Mavic Pro and the P4P can do. Not really an upgrade in my view. Could've/Should've been much better. I think these will not be as popular as the original Mavic Pro.
"Fantastic Specs and Features" isn't really a description I would use. It isn't a quantum leap from the original Mavic Pro or the P4P.

Disappointing to see that the camera is not as good as the one that is on the Phantom 4 Pro from back in 2016. It looks purely like a DJI sales move to limit 4K/60 to higher priced drones like the Phantom or Inspire series. Let's face it...people would stop buying the Phantom 4 line completely if Mavic 2 Pro had 4K/60. On the flip side, this will slightly fuel the market for other drone companies to possible create a 4K/60, 1in CMOS, 20MP foldable/ultra portable drone for a profitable price.  Competition is usually good for the end user. We'll see how it turns out.
On the side note...I had the Mavic 2 Pro FlyMore combo with the DJI RE goggles in cart and logged in to my Pay Pal ready to buy...when it hit me to check for 4K/60...and that is the SINGLE reason why i did not hit buy. I'm a small piece of the puzzle, but $2,200 stays in my pocket until i find something that fits the needs.

Hi. Thank you for reaching DJI Forum.

1. For Mavic 2 Pro, it supports only H.265. For Mavic 2 Zoom, it supports both H.264 and H.265.

DJI Wanda -

Thanks for responding. To clarify, I think you may have mispoken. The Mavic 2 Pro Zoom User Manual on page 38 clearly indicates that the DJI Mavic 2 Pro supports both H.264 as well as H.265 in "normal" mode:

"The Mavic 2 Pro supports video formats MP4 and MOV, providing Normal, D-LOG and HLG color modes. In Normal mode, H.264 and H.265 code formats are supported. In D-Log or HLG  mode, only H.265 is supported."

So, please ask your engineers if it is possible that 4K/60fps will be supported in H.264 code format mode in the future just as it is now supported on the Phantom 4 Pro in H.264 mode only (but is limited to 30 fps in H.265 mode)?

Please note that the ability to record 4K video in 60 fps produces much more image detail and results in much less pixelation when flying over landscape with small features (grassy areas and leafy trees, for example) than if 4K video is limited to 30 fps max. It would seem the camera hardware should support this. But perhaps the move from 8-bit to 10-bit color palette has added too much digital image processing overhead to support the faster 60 fps recording rate at 100 mbps?

I agree that 100 mbps data rate vs. 60 mbps is a critically important improvement for the Mavic Pro product line in regards to improved video quality. However, the ability to record 4K video in 60 fps vs. 30 fps is important for improved video quality for landscape videography. The 2-year-old Phantom 4 Pro offers BOTH these features (4K/60fps in H.264 mode at data rate of 100 mbps).  I was hoping the Mavic Pro 2 would offer these same video specs in addition to the other spec/feature upgrades vs. the original Mavic Pro.  DJI- Natalie has also recently confirmed that the Mavic Pro 2 is not capable of taking a photo while simultaneously recording 4K video even at only 30fps vs. 60 fps. The Phantom 4 Pro can also do that - take photos (at HD, but not full sensor resolution) while simultaneously recording 4K/60 fps video).

I personally use both those features - taking photos while simultaneously recording 4K/60 fps video - on nearly every video shoot.

Guess I’ll need to hold out hopes for a Phantom 5 with those specific P4Pro features plus all the great new features and higher-quality camera and 1-in sensor of the Mavic 2 Pro.

Hello, just to clarify, none of the Mavic Pros can do 4k60 in H.264 right? Only the P4Pro and none of the other Phantoms have it either.

Maybe if they enable H.264 in the Mavic 2 Pro we'll get to see some 4k60.

I think if you have a P4Pro, a Mavic 2 Pro wouldn't be considered an upgrade except for size and weight. Most people here start from a Spark or MA or MP so that 1 inch sensor would be one of the main upgrades.

Yes...it is a VERY big problem. Especially when you see a Phantom with  a camera that can do EVERYTHING M2 can do, and shoot 4K/60. You're telling me that 2 years of advancement is still short on achieving that goal? You must be joking...

Sure, it is more relevant, but that does not take away from the fact that 4K/60 should have been part of this release. Especially when the Phantom 4 released 2 YEARS AGO, had ALL those capabilities. It's a simple, and direct choice by DJI to limit M2 for future upgrades. It's a sad move by the company.

Remember, not only landscape. Anything in motion will look VERY blurry in 30fps. I personally loved using P4P for recording aerial shots of downhill biking, kayaking down some rapids, or snowboarding.

Yes, the M2 is an improvement from the original, but still falls short of what previous models showed is possible. Disappointing.

In a world of 4K TVs/Monitors, that push abilities with 120/144hz, Yes...i EXPECT 2 years of advancement to give me 1"CMOS, with a good range of Fstops, 100bit data, and 4K/60fps. Otherwise, I'm a fool that accepts mediocrity. Nothing GROUNDBREAKING about this drone...and for that reason, no sale.

Yes, I guess they need 'space' between the Phantom and the Mavic line.
(which sounds logical from their perspective)

Except the camera is far better than the P4 pro in terms of sensor quality, image processing, HDR/HLG and log support and so on.
The only thing it lacks is a mechanical shutter.

A lack of a niche mode that hardly anyone uses doesn't overshadow the massive improvements in the camera from the mavic 1.

DJI Thor -

Thanks.  Adding 4K/60fps video capability, at least in H.264 mode, would be appreciated by many users, even if that had to be limited to Normal  (8-bit) color mode as is currently possible with the Phantom 4 Pro.

Also, adding the ability to capture photos, even if they are less than full 20 MP resolution, while simultaneously recording 4K video would be greatly appreciated if that feature is not currently available in cuurent Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom aircraft firmware and DJI GO app release. I, and I suspect many others, fequently use this very useful feature when recording aerial video with the Phantom 4 Pro.

Are we sure there will be a Phantom 5? DJI Is calling the MP2 their "FLAGSHIP CONSUMER" drone which usually means top of the line. No one of course at DJI will say whether there will be a P5 but there has been no leaks that I've seen and some folks seem to think the Phantom line is KAPUT???

Hi TheMann58, I had forwarded the requests. Just to answer your second question, yes, picture in video is not supported at this moment. Just to clarify, PIV takes the screenshot of the transmission during flying instead of the original video. Thus in my personal opinion, we can take the screenshot from the original video when reviewing it on the PC. Thank you.

At least an option to take a photo while the video is in progress (without interrupting filming and flight) would be highly welcome! I know that a frame can potentially be taken from a 4K footage in post, but that would not have a DNG option, and neither would it be of the best quality, as the frame image would be a re-compressed, processed version.

Would be nice have possibly to get Panoramas in DNG instead of JPG. Or it is technically impossible? Or at least to get several DNG photos to combine them in post later.
