I've been asked on a couple of occasions to act as a "spotter" (usually on lakes rather than rivers).
It's bordering on cheating, I feel. You've got to give the fish a sporting chance
The ones in the picture are approaching 40 lb - they're in a private lake belonging to an acquaintance of mine a few Kms away.

They looked big but that is BIG! I would think spotting on a lake would be a good idea but as you say borderline cheating. A river may not have as consistent conditions and environment. Here, with the ocean, there is a consistent environment and fairly consistent conditions.
Have you seen the little remote control "Chum Boats" for running chum out to the fish and then you throw them your line? The have similar rigs for drones.
BTW, mahalo for the weir shot! It kind of sprang out at me. I wonder where the swans were hanging out?
