Sounds like a bad connection, change the cable.

Have you tried a different cable?
Have you tried reinstalling the App?

I heard there are issues on Android 9...

Worked fine with this phone / controller / cable combo pre Android 9.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Tried different cable (standard usb -> usb c, no difference.

Has anyone tried using the first  Pixel XL or the Google Nexus 6 phones ?

I just got my Mavic Air last week. My Pixel XL (1st generation) updated to Android 9 the week before. I had downloaded the DJI Go app prior to getting my Mavic Air. After the Android 9 update, the DJI Go app would not open. No big deal, I didn't have anything to use it with, so I uninstalled the app, reinstalled, and the app worked fine. After my Mavic Air arrived, I started everything up. The Go app stated that I needed a firmware update, I agreed and followed all the instructions, Mavic Air undated, controller updated, I completed my VERY first drone flight ever. I'm happy so far!

Thanks for the info I have a Pixel XL which I haven't updated to 9 yet that I want to try with my Mavic 2 Pro when I get it.

So many issues with Android at the moment. I also can't connect the RC to my phone, after 3 months of no issues. Googling it brings up 1000 threads identical to this in the last few weeks.

HTC U11, Mavic Air.

Loads of different android phones seem to have these issues with both MP and MA.

Great. But remember, my drone is a Mavic Air.

Some success. After various disconnects and prompting to upgrade controller firmware (and many fails after 5%) I tried a different cable (as suggester earlier) and wasn't prompted to upgrade F/W and managed a flight!

how do you upgrade controller firmware? thought there was only one version?

With a third party cable I wasn't asked to so perhaps the original cable was the problem, bad Comms with the conroller

Its normally cable related.  The DJI supplied ones in particular are awful.
A good quality real USB cable using the bottom port is a better option.

Amazing that the DJI supplied cables would be awful.  No excuse for this.
But..thanks to this forum, I changed the cable and all seems to be working fine now.   Thanks DJI for costing me 1/2 a day of frustration.

But a true thanks to the folks here all working now with my Pixel2 XL.

No cable, no Android or DJI update has addressed the connection problem to date. Connecting the Pixel 2 XL with a DJI drone remains an issue.
