Many large surveying companies use expensive, specialty drones with special, onboard GPS equipment for ground mapping.

Alternately... Is the integrated P3 and P4 GPS, accurate and nimble enough to be used by a surveyor for the kinds of mapped data that require GPS?

in theory, you would need to sample "ground control points" with your drone. These GCP would have known GPS coordinates previously taken with a traditional land-based GPS RTK equipment. In the photogrammetry software then you would assign those coordinates to GCP and voilà, the photogrammetry software would get the point cloud and derivatives (mesh, orthophotos, etc) fully georeferenced down to +/- 5 cm. precission.

Without GCP your result will lack precission mainly in the Z coordinate, due to GNSS limitations. Another issue is that in photogrammetry, precission is not regular across a given point clound, some areas could vary much more than others, depending on the GSD of a particular area and many other factors.

Hi. Thank you for reaching DJI.  Yes, Phantom 3 and 4 series can do mapping that requires GPS. It is recommended P Mode for the Phantom 4 and any aircraft released after the Phantom 4. F Mode for aircraft released prior to the Phantom 4, including the Phantom 3, Inspire 1, M100, M600 etc. Essentially, if the controller has an F Mode use F Mode, otherwise use P Mode. We recommend to use GS Pro but to give you an heads up, this app only works for iPad devices.
