Hi all,

Can I ask what people think?

I've had my Mavic Pro since the start of the year and loving every minute of it.
I love my DSLR landscape photography and I seem to take more drone photography than video.
When I found out the Mavic 2 Pro has a bigger 1" sensor, I immediately though of the possibilities of trading up.
The bit that's holding be back is the fact I haven't had it long, would like to avoid any potential early adopters issues and I got the DJI Care.

  • Do people think its worth it?
  • Would you do do the upgrade or have you done it?
  • Is 9months in worth packing up and moving up?
  • Would you wait?

I'd love to hear what you think??

Thanks and happy flying!

I had 3 Mavics and couldn't get a decent picture out of any of them.
Then I went to the Phantom 4 Pro for the 1" sensor. Was OK, but cumbersome.
Sold it and went to the Mavic 2 Pro. I am happy now.
The detail is amazing.
This is a very small portion of a picture I took from 85 feet up.
Rather than compressing it, I just kept cropping it down until it was under 2mb.

With all the improvements and if the timing is right for you financially I say go for it.
I am still a year out financially but am also very happy with my MP and it's performance.

I have the Mp and love it because it's issue free. I will get the MP2 but will keep my MP and sell my P3A instead.

That was from my first flight. Straight from the camera and all settings on Auto.
There is also a nice new feature of half press on the shutter button to focus.
So far I am really liking the M2P.  Weather not cooperating..... only flown it twice so far.

I voted buy now and start a collection.  You can never have to many DJI quads, but I’m a junkie.

Nice shots....  Thanks for sharing. So far with my M2P I have found the image quality to be very good overall. I had the Mavic pro for 2 years and still going strong. I am very happy with my new M2P, but have a issue with the gimbal camera balance. Even with this I have no regrets on the purchase

I think the M2P shows a good improvement on the image quality. Especially for photography.
BUT
Early adopters usually pay the price in 2 ways.
There might still be flaws that have not be discovered and the price is rather high.
So unless you have a good reason to be one, I would suggest to wait a little (black friday might be a good day)

Yes, this is how I feel also.

Seeing those pics of the gimbal snapping are still in my mind.

Thanks!

Have to agree, the pictures on m1 take a lot of post work. I just got my m2 but the low light in 10 bit is just gachigasm.

I bought the M2P as a lightweight stand-in for the 6D.
It's nowhere near a full-frame for low-light or DOF (that creamy bokeh) but it's stabilized and can fly so I reckon that makes up for it.
Add a PolarPro Katana and a VideoMic and it's an all in one with a few compromises.

I'm in the same boat right now and I suggest saving the money until you are able to buy it straight away instead of selling your M1P.  It'll be summer next year where I should be able to afford it (including all the crucial equipment like fly more combo, hard case and stuff like this) Until then I'll try to get the most out of the M1P. Just to citate someone on Facebook saying something along the lines: Do you tell your wife its the stove that made the meal tasty or that she has great cooking skills?Yes I know it's very hard to wait... but it'll be worth it. In the end you'll have a drone for trying out new (maybe risky) things and the other one to actually perform them

P.S.: Thanks Aeromirage for sharing these pictures!

My needs are met by the old P3P (except portability) and the Mavic Pro. Until reach the stage where I can take stunning video and stills, something with enhanced picture quality is unlikely to be worth buying. Broadly speaking, solely from my point of view, buying the latest kit because you want the best kit is not a substitute for skill. It is unlikely the sharper image, the 20MP snap or other gimics will be noticed or appreciated by others if the photo or video is the usual mundane quality. Very seldom do my pics raise a 'WOW!' so why waste the money.  If it was my first drone, I would wait a while and see the performance issues of the MP2s before buying. Has DJI cleaned up its act on service? I wouldn't rely on it. I always buy from a reputable source where the guarantee means I get my own drone repaired and returned, or a brand new one in its place.

If I were extoling the virtues of my drone, I would hope to show a photo that showed what it can do. What is it about this photo that is interesting to you? My son had a film camera and went around photographing doors. He gave up photography for 30 years until the advent of the digital age. Your photo reminds me of his door phase.

Give it till the end of the year or a Christmas promotion, my reason being; gives time for the bugs to be worked out and some 'long' term reviews to come in also the potential for the P5 to surface (which would see the P4P price drop).

I've had my Mavic Air for 6-7 months, I'm similar to you in that I mainly take photos with it so the Pro 2 would offer much better IQ , I'll be waiting till the warranty is (plus refresh) has expired before I buy another (unless there is a very good deal on the P4P).

Think about how you decide to invest in a new DSLR vs the one you use now. Its the same process. I've shot with new Canon's and Sony's when they were released and each of those had some minor issues to be worked out through updates. Same goes for this. Question you have to ask is, do you need this now or just want it now.

Yes! I know what you mean! This is how I went from a Canon 500d to a 5Dmkiii.
I think the fact I just got my Mavic Pro at the start of the year is what’s holding me back.

Thanks again!

in my opinion I have yet to see a difference in quality from photos taken with the mp2. To me some good post work makes a bigger difference from what I have seen being posted here and on IG. I am sure it would be more noticeable on printed and blown up pics though.

Once i say wow a few times I will probably buy one but it hasn't done that for me yet.
So i say wait.

I dont really take photos.  More of a video guy.  In low light there is a big difference between the Mavic Pro & Mavic 2 Pro.  I'm used to what I get from the 1/2.3" sensors, so the results from the M2P's 1" sensor is a huge improvement.  These samples aren't the identical flight paths but of the same general scenery.  The videos offer an example of the difference between the two birds.

Great vids! Thanks!
