Hey Guys,

I've had the Mavic 2 Pro for 2 weeks now and have flown it almost every single day.  It's not perfect, but I think its the best drone on the market for me.  I've loved the Spark and the Mavic Air, but due to them being designed to their specific price points and sized, there are some compromises you must be okay with for them.  Conversely, I wish the Mavic 2's didn't cost so much and I wish it was the size of the Mavic Air.  However, I've thoroughly enjoyed each flight so far and have captured the best drone photos and videos I've ever been able to capture.

My thoughts on my 2 weeks with the M2P in more detail:

Cheers!

NOTE:  The video is in 4K, but YouTube hasn't processed it yet more than 3 hours after uploading it.  Hopefully soon!

Good Luck.

I really don't understand DJI leaving the CrystalSky out to dry.  It's always the last device to get any updates and yet it is a premium product.  It seems like it would be the easiest for them to update since they have 100% control of the hardware and software in that device.

I honestly would have one in my fly bag if they treated it like the premium product they price it to be.

So, does M2P have a mechanical shutter or not?  I’ve heard yes and no now?

EDIT:  My original response was about aperture.  If you read that, sorry.  In regards to shutter, no, it does not have that.  You have to go to the P4P to get that.

Hiya,

Its always nice to see your videos. Mayby i buy a MP2 as well!

It is possible for you ( or anyone else) to do a flight with all the quickshots modes and sent me the flight log?
with some expaining text to indicate what mode is used in sequence.

I love to have that for improving my own FRAP program.

cheers

Hi Wachtberger,

Thanks, really appreciate that. Some other trackmodes (tap fly) would be nice also.

I recently saw a helix mode where some kind of landing was written in the file for that mode.
I am still on 4.2.16 on my main device, and 4.2.24 on my smaller screen device.
But don`t think that DJI will rename a mode in such a strange way in the latest app version.

cheers

I'm afraid I'm not going to be the best to answer that question.  I don't have personal experience with the P4P, so I would just be giving advice based on what I've read online about the P4P.  On paper, the P4P bests the M2P with a mechanical aperture and 4K60.  I think in most other respects, the M2P equals or bests the P4P in regards to checking off the feature boxes.

However, I can't really comment about real world usage comparisons due to my lack of P4P experience.

I guess you feel quite strongly about that!

Just joking based on the triple post.  For real though, it has helped me to capture some best pics/vids I've ever captured.

Thank you for these great photos, which confirms my impressions on this drone. Do you have a solution to refocus the camera easily and quickly once you have made it move horizontally?

Great review - right now I am trying to decide on what my upgrade from Phantom 4 is going to be, with the Mavic 2 Pro or Phantom 4 pro

I have heard that the P4P mechanical shutter produces clearer video in sideways video and panning shots, but I don't know if that's truly the case or not. It's something I notice with my P4, video from sideways moving shots is sub optimal. If the mechanical shutter on the P4P is only for still photos and the sideways or panning video from the MP2 is just as good as the P4P camera then the scales just tipped in favour of the Mavic.

Portability is a nice to have for me, not a need to have, as don't find the P4 I have in its factory case too cumbersome at all.

Another thing tipping the scales in the MP2 favour is the absense of props in shots, I find that an issue with some P4 footage if I don't remember to tilt the camera down when going fast.

Things that tip the scales in the P4P favour are: Batteries - I already have 3 that will work with it, even though they aren't the new higher capacity. Props - I have lots of spares already.  Camera - the P4P camera, although it's not a Hasselblad, seems to have a couple of advantages over the MP2 camera, 4K60 being one of them. As for the mechanical shutter, still trying to find out more. The MP2 mechanical aperture is tentalizing however.  Flight modes, P4P wins here, particularly with course and home lock modes.

The other thing is I like flying with a tablet, not a phone. Originally I had a samsung 10" tablet, but with newer GO app versions not reliable on it, I picked up a iPad mini 4 7" screen that works great, and fits in the factory case. I wouldn't want to fly with anything smaller.

Thanks for the kind words.  By default, you can use the 5D button to re-center the gimbal.  If you push the 5D button up, it re-centers it in the straight forward position.  If you push it down, it re-centers in the straight down position.
