Hey Guys!

I put together a short, to the point the video on why Auto White Balance (AWB) is not the best choice when shooting video with your DJI Spark, or really any drone or camera for that matter. A quick and simple explanation about white balance and using the proper settings too. Hope it's helpful.

Good question. I haven't done any night flying with my drone but when I was doing a lot of night photography I typically preferred a tungsten preset because the light of the city looked best with that setting. It really depends on the available light. I would try tungsten first and if that doesn't look good just go in to custom and move it around until you find something you like. :-)

I asked this same question elsewhere,  once you pick another non-auto setting for a flight, after you are finished and powered off, is the setting retained?  Is it persistent from one flight to the next?

Thanks

Thank you, that's exactly what I did with my latest - your video made it very clear just how easy setting a custom white balance is to do.
Thanks,
Chris

Yes, the white balance setting is persistent between power cycles, regardless of it being auto or a preset. However, the automated flight modes boot you out of manual exposure, which catches me all the time - haha. White balance stays consistent though.

Trying to remember not to use AWB.

Actually shot yesterday with the exposure set manually too.

I always use manual settings but I've been caught unawares a few times as well by the settings reverting to auto for some reason. I think once was after an update to the Go 4 app, but can't remember for sure.

I think you are better off using exposure lock, as I like to move the gimbal up and down, finding that sweet spot between up and down is an art, but I am getting closer...  I did make use of the WB settings today...  but still getting the hang of how sparkie handles light.

Another great video! Thanks

I would really like to be able to switch it in the OSD menu by tapping on the WB field: Auto, tipp, sunny, tipp, cloudy, tipp, ....

Can someone at DJI make that happen?

Awesome! Eliminating the colour and exposure fluctuations improves the look of your footage and makes post-processing so much easier. :-)

I never had much luck with auto exposure lock. I found it was too easy for me to inadvertently unlock it and I notice too late.

That's a good idea! I really would like to see DJI to make the histogram setting persistent between reboots. That is a BIG annoyance for me.

Thanks. Yeah, even if you don't get your white balance quite right, by staying away from auto at least your colour will be consistent and that is so much easier to fix in post. Cheers!
