Actually Baltimore is wide open except for two jails northwest of the Inner Harbor & the two stadiums during games.  Back before the current Geo system the two stadiums were always NFZ 24/7 even when no game was scheduled.  That is probably what you experienced.  Now it's great.  No game you are free to fly!

Christine, you need to learn the art of the stealth launch & fly.  Park at the back of a parking lot, shopping center, etc, with your vehicle facing your intended flight direction.  Prep the bird in the vehicle, casually set it outside & fire her up.  Then sit back in your car with the remote on the wheel & fly in climate-controlled comfort.  You even have a convenient cup holder!  The glass won't affect your RC range, & you can even fly pretty far off to the sides & rear.

Go to the very end.  I flew the whole flight sitting in the truck.

Keep in mind that you can fly in your car, but from my experience the signal gets bad quickly. If you can see the drone trough the windshield it should be fine, but if you go a bit out the signal will drop quickly

the glass wont effect it but the metal body of the vehical acts as a faraday cage which will block signals.   my Volvo wagon is really bad about blocking my signals usually getting signal warnings and issues within 100 feet..

I fly from inside my work truck & pickup all the time & have never noticed any reduction in RC performance.   I have even flown a mile or more directly BEHIND myself through the body of the work truck & cap of my pickup.  In this old P4 video I am 3 miles out flying in the cold with a few flurries.

well true, with occusync...  occusync on my mavic pro i used to own i could fly around a mile away in any direction without much fuss..   but my mavic air now, RIP... the wifi almost like it cannot leave my car.

Wi-Fi was why i passed on the Air & waited for the Mavic 2.  The Air is a great bird except for the Wi-Fi.

that is true.  i mean the "enhanced wifi" is almost there, maybe dji can optimize it it further in firmware, has been mods for 1.5 watts (default is 0.4watts in FCC), i tried that mod out on android (rolled back to a working dji go app version for that mod) and it makes a huge difference in signal quality, not so much to pure range but quality and penetration power is way up and it felt liek i was flying my mavic pro, very few things challenged it.

Maybe because the MA is WiFi based?  DB flies a P4P I think.

mhm, part of the issue is output power, more power it outputs the more it can penetrate.

i did a mod to get 1.5 watts on my mavic air (patched in Dji go 4 now) and it made a world of difference, though i didn't fly it from my car with that 1.5 watt mod but i did fly it around trees and buildings and it acted like my mavic pro did, basically unphased.

just as a reminder to let her know if your method uses dji go 4 app config files:

on android you have to roll back the app because it doesn't always stick, for me on new app i have to inject the config file every time i launch the app.  if you roll back it will stick everytime..   

on iOS its equally as annoying but have to roll back itunes on your PC then inject the config file that way or use XCode method and inject at launch.



unless better method, i can only seem to get tethered methods to work

I seem to have it working on Android without rolling back, IOS i just side loaded the newest app with mine with an impactor and tweat and it works FCC in CE
