Not long after installing DJI Assistant on my MacBook Pro (early 2015 dual core i7 8GB 1TB with Mac OS 10.13.6), I noticed that my Mac was restarting all the time, and then noticed this was due to constant kernel panics.  This specifically happened whenever Time Machine tried to back up to an external USB drive.  I was unable to complete a single backup, as the kernel panics occurred 100% of the time.
I detached all peripherals except for the external drive,  I re-partitioned and reformatted the external drive.  I tried other external drives instead.  I ran diagnostics on the system, all drives and hardware (everything was fine), but still, kernel panics, 100% of the time.  The kernel panic was always the same: “ino 707366 you must have an extent covering the alloced size 4096 (fsize 0) orig_pos 0∶3620 err 34\n"@/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/apfs/apfs-748.77.8/nx/job j.c:11112.”  Or occasionally as “ino 626347” but otherwise exactly the same, and always from apfs/mdworker during a Time Machine backup.  Last loaded kext at 24527795520365: com.apple.driver.CoreStorageFsck 546.50.1 (addr 0xffffff7f8726c000, size 98304) last unloaded kext at 25636116228507: com.joshuawise.kexts.HoRNDIS 6 (addr 0xffffff7f8715f000, size 28672).

Then I booted into Safe Mode, and suddenly I was able to complete backups.  Working with Apple, we narrowed down the suspect to HoRNDIS.  Sure enough, as soon as I uninstalled just that one extension, all kernel panics stopped, and backups completed regularly, even with all peripherals attached.  Since removing HoRNDIS—and that was the only change—kernel panics went from 100% of the time to zero.

I also had the same problem. Had to delete the HoRNDIS.kext file from /Library/Extensions and /Library/StagedExtensions and then the problem went away!
