This is just information and of course no recommendation but I just installed the latest DJI Pilot app
on my iPad 4 without problems. Have not tried it flying yet but will, the app behaves normally with
RC and P3 on.

So for your info if anyone wants to try this and don´t know the app is iFunbox: http://i-funbox.com/
The app lets you install a saved copy of DJI Pilot on your IOS device via your Mac/PC,
installation worked without problems on my iPad 4 from 2013.

The P3 RC mounts are half an inch to short for the iPad 4 to fit on there so will have to make some fix for that.

Have you checked with DJI about using http://i-funbox.com/?  If not I can follow them up to check whether there are any shortcomings with this approach.

In the meantime I can stop having to borrow my daughter's Samsung S5 smartphone every time I want to fly my D3 Advanced.

Great Steve and glad that the info led you into not having to borrow daughter´s Samsung!

I´m quite sure DJI do not like it since it is some sort of jailbreak install, and of course
you will fly with some sort of new risk. Now there´s always risks flying and my guess
is that they just limited what you can install on because the big Ipads don´t fit on
the mounting tray, how did you solve that?

Great news, I did´t know so got the Air 2. But would have bought it anyway later maybe.
