Without numbers ON the battery, rotating 'em effectivly needs always to check the number of charge cycles with the device connected to the bird.
So numbers it is (for me)

I put colored tabs from file cabinet organizers on the aircraft and the battery.  One green battery, one yellow, and one pink.  Mostly cheap coloring so they can be found if I have to ground the aircraft far from myself due to ATTI or some loss of control.  But I try to pick different colors to fly.  I find it is better bang for the buck to just buy new batteries than to waste time babying them.  Better than trying to make a dying battery last forever.  Batteries have limited lifespans.

Yes, I number mine.
I also have my name, address and phone number in a text file on the SD card.

I used a sharpie to number each battery.  I only have two and they came with the FlyMore...  so when the time comes to replace them, the numbers will be retired, and I will record the dates on the new ones too.  the text file on the SD card is a good idea too,  however, as we have to label our drones here with name, address, telephone number, its pretty much already visible.

Where do you reside that you need to put your name, address, and phone number on it? It meaning the battery and / or , drone?

Cool idea with the text file. I have 2 batteries and usually use both in a session. If I use just one, I put the other in the drone so I'll use that one next.

Personally, I would use the txt file idea as a backup.
I have lost (destroyed) 3 camera SD cards in home made craft crashes.
I have also lost (destroyed) 1 SD card from the flight controller in a crash.

Agreed not a primary ID just an added layer of comfort so to speak...You do all you can.

i have three batteries i label them 1 , 2 , 3 ,  and use them in that order . your  FAA registration number it all you really need , if found and the person , if they are the right type of people will return the drone to the rightful owner . of course a name and telephone number and a reward will always work faster .

Never bothered to number or label the batteries. Once one gets bad, it goes to electronics/batteries trash and the new one is replacing it.
Strong believer in a fact that battery numbering and "effectively rotating" was invented by bored people.

I love the look of the white on clear label.  Was this with a Brother Label maker?  If so, do you know the model and the height of the tape?

I recreated your FAA label (not pictured), as well as a similarly styled battery label (pictured).
