I have been to Iceland recently and did some footage of the erputing Strokkur geysir. Video editing is not perfect.

Hi ChrisJG,

I'm afraid no. To get a decent aurora shot you'll need about 30 seconds exposure time (raw estimate with a DSLR camera), additionally, Sparky can't look upwards with its camera.
We only saw an aurora once, at exactly that place at the geysirs. It was very dim, barely noticable. Problem is all the artifical lights at night.

Hi Wimherman,

The Strokkur blows about every 3 minutes or so. I had to record 11 minutes to get the 3 eruptions plus starting and landing. The plan was just go for one eruption, but the first two were not big enough, and I knew Strokkur can do better :-)
The third one was a good one then. Even if it wasn't, I am carrying 2 more batteries with my Sparky. Just in case :-)

Hi Tentoes,

Yes it has, lots of waterfalls, lakes, lava fields, volcanoes, icebergs, not to forget geysirs
Icelandic drone flying rules are relaxed. Only few places where drone flying is forbidden.
There are so few people that it is nearly not possible to annoy anybody, apart from tourists
Only drawback is the always blowing very strong wind. We had once a wind of 145 km/h...almost impossible to stand or walk, and definitely no flying the Spark.

That was awesome.  I visited Yellowstone National Park several years ago and got to see Old Faithful.  Simply incredible.  Smelly as all heck, but so fascinating to watch.  Thank you for sharing and bringing back those memories.
