I expect more likely drone registration much like a mobile phone - unique ID on each device. Even a reset (say if you sell it on) will require the ID to be associated to some form of traceable ID. Its almost there but not in legislation yet. All DJI would have to do is put in a device lock if not registered - hidden within a firmware update.
It will not help with stricter rules or total prohibitions. The idiots are still out there and they will continue to do whatever they want anyway. The only thing that can stop that kind of thing is to imprison them, or otherwise make them unable to physically proceed.
They haven't quit selling liquor due to drunk drivers.
Only stiffened the penalties.
I am certain that alcohol has killed more than drones have. (Or ever will)
Likewise penalty for improper drone us will be stiffened.
Not all criminals are smart, check out this pair Selfie
I believe that it's quite a problem on the southern borders of the U.S.A. judging by this report Mexican smugglers
China has it's share of problems also Phone Smugglers so it appears to be a world wide problem
just recently the local news here were warning people about someone flying a drone around people's home in their windows in order to find out if there anyone was present in order to break in. Things will never change people will always ruin a good thing for other responsible people
