Yesterday I had a bad experience with my mavic 2.

While I was capturing some snowy mountains doing a parallax shot.....  (I was looking at the screen) My drone hit a tree.... At the begining I didn't know what happened... So I  used the find my drone function.... After a few minutes driving and  after 1 hour walking into the woods I found it... Then I checked the recorded video and the issue was it ended up hitting a tree.

The drone was flying at 120 meters high but the mountain had elevation and although my drone was at 120 meters up where it had taken off, It's altituded was cancelled out because of the mountain's elevation.

Since the mvement was a parallax, my drone hit sideways against the tree. So the side sensor would have been the solution to avoid it.

I know that in tripod mode all sensors are activated, but the drone going sideways flies very slowly.

Anyway, I was very lucky to find it. The damage was only to the shell (nose shell and a bit of the side part). And no damage to the legs.

Aside from trying to figure out how to activate the side sensors in normal mode..... As I cannot bear to see a scratch on the drone, especially in the nose shell..... and I see it is very easy to change.. just 2 screws... where can I buy this small spare part?

Side sensors only workin tripod mode, no way to activate then for normal flight. As far as finding a spare nose shell, no one sells them that I know of, maybe eBay?

No, it’s not possible to activate the side sensors in normal flight mode!

Actually another user suggested a solution to this. If you enter Active Track all sensors are enabled. Then you just move the drone as usual without tracking anything. Haven't tried it myself, though.

I wonder why DJI decided not giving the option to activate it in normal mode...... I hope any admin can answer what is the reason behind...

Personally I think that DJI limited the side sensors purely because of marketing.
To make them available all the time on mavic 3

That is way cool! I'm going to try that if the rain ever stops.

But if all sensors work in Active Track without tracking...DJI could make a flight mode to use all sensors that is more faster then slow-mo Tripod.

Still no luck finding the nose shell yet
