Hello All,

I am looking to purchase a Mavic Pro 2 in the coming weeks, but before buying it I would like a couple of things clarifying.
The internet (as always) seems to be giving very mixed messages!
I have attached a screenshot taken from Airmap which shows a dashed blue area. The key on Airmap doesn't explain what this means.

From what I have read, this area is deemed as a Zone D airspace, which means I can fly my drone, as long as it weighs under 7Kg and I do not break any rules defined in the 'Drone Code'.

Can anyone confirm this, as this is where I would like to do my day to day flying?

Thanks in advance!

Vaughan

That's right about Zone D - you need to keep it close and low - as for the blue area - no idea.

Thank you.

Hopefully, someone can help explain the dashed blue area as well.

Hi, thanks for the inquiry. Unfortunately, the Airmap is not supported by DJI and I'm afraid that we don't have an accurate information in regards to this, however, on our DJI geo zone map, there will be different types of restriction. Please see the link below for your reference.

In the USA you CANNOT fly in Class D airspace without ... authorization.  Class D airspace runs from the surface up to usually 4200 ft MSL.  Class D airspace is usually associated with smaller airports.

Hi Vaughan. I think what you are seeing is part of the airspace border described as the Vale of York AIAA (Area of Intense Aerial Activity). It is defined from surface to Flight Level 190 (~19,000ft). NATS give an OK to fly zone but remember to remain below 400ft above surface. It's where the Military fly low !! Happy flying

If  the definition is surface to 19K as the military use it for low flying then I would thing you can't fly there at all!!  The RAF fly well below 400 ft in these areas.

You should check with the CAA or NATS for advice *before* flying    NATS have their own app for this called Drone assist.  https://dronesafe.uk/safety-apps/
Today 1st December 2018 it is shown as a HIGH RISK area  for UAV's

Definitely stay out of Military flight areas at any altitude.  Marines practice flying on the deck.  Close enough in Helios to get cactus guts/juice on their canopies.  Seen one rotor with a nasty notch into it.  Supposedly clipped a Joshua Tree.

Here's the Airmap user manual section on what the colors mean. You are correct, it's Class D airspace.
