I think it was a large insect or hummingbird.

I recall in one of my drone flights, a hummingbird flew by and made a screeching halt in the air and flew back to take a second look at the drone for a second or two and then left.

I guess it couldn't believe its eyes that there was a 4-winged "bird" which can hover, too..
