A typical fast USB charger (such as an iPad charger) will output 10 watts (2A * 5V). The iPhone charger will only output 5 watts (1A * 5V).

In order for the charger to output a higher wattage, your device will need a chip with a PD handshake. The handshake will take place when you plug the charger into your device. If the handshake doesn’t happen, the default output will only be 10 watts. This is to prevent burning out a device that cannot take a quick charge.

This is how the MacBook Pro charger works when connected to a MacBook in order to achieve 80 watts from the charger. If you hook up a device that doesn’t have the correct PD handshake, the MacBook charger will only output 10 watts.

This is the measured power from the MacBook Pro charger currently charging the Ronin-S. As you can see, it’s only outputting around 10 watts.

We’ve designed the DJI Quick Charger to have a PD handshake with the Ronin-S. When the handshake takes place, the charger will output 24 watts (2A * 12V). Here you can see the measured output from the DJI Quick Charger when charging the Ronin-S. This is how it’s able to charge a completely depleted battery in about 2 hours.

So why use the included Quick Charger? If the Ronin-S is connected to a regular fast charger or the MacBook charger, the output will only be 10 watts which means IT WILL TAKE OVER 5 HOURS TO FULLY CHARGE. You can charge the Ronin-S with any USB charger as it can take the lower wattage but it will just take a much longer time.
