I have just bought my first drone, a Mavic 2 Pro.

I’m struggling to get smooth yaw movements. I’ve tweaked all the controller settings, but it’s still difficult to achieve.

Doing some research I came across a setting called Gimbal Sunchronius Follow, so I went into the DJI GO 4 app to activate it, only to find it wasn’t there.

Why not? Seems to be exactly what’s needed.

Hi, we appreciate bringing this query to us. I understand you are currently struggling to get smooth yaw movements. In the app, you will see 3 horizontal dots to the right part of the screen, tap that and locate the first icon (aircraft icon) scroll down to locate the advanced settings, tap EXP, in the EXP settings they set the linear relationship between how much you have to move your stick to how much output you get in response. In all three cases, you want less output for more input which simply increases the level of control you'll have on the sticks. Throttle up and down simply controls how fast the altitude is going to change. This will probably the least important amongst the three. Greatest input in the smoothest that you are looking for is the Rotate left or right part, otherwise known as YAW this will adjust the rotation starts as you start to move your sticks. You may play between 20 increment of 15, this will slow the start of any rotation. I hope that I was able to help you with your current concern today. Fly safely.

Thanks, but like I said in my original post, I’ve already done all that. It’s helped, but it’s still not ideal.

Why is there no option for Gimbal Synchronous Follow anymore? Or just do it electronically with the yaw, like I can set a smoothness value for the gimbal tilt.

Cinematic and Tripod mode both smooth out the pitch, roll and braking nicely, but the yaw always starts and stops abruptly, even with the control sensitivity turned all the way down. There needs to be an option to gradually ease into the acceleration/deceleration, even with less-than-delicate control inputs. After all, it’s sudden/fast yaw movements that cause the most jarring motion blur in the footage.

Please give us something to help solve this problem.

Hi, kindly give us a sample video of the issues you are having for us to check. The  Gimbal Synchronous Follow is not available in Mavic 2 Pro.  However, have you tried adjusting the yaw sensitivity as shown in the photo below? Thank you.

I’m just curious as to why they would remove a perfectly useful setting?! What’s the rationale?

Yes, I have adjusted that setting also.

I am well aware that the Gimbal Synchronous Follow setting is not available for the Mavic 2 Pro, my question is why?! It seemed that people used it and liked it a lot.

Will you be adding the option back in a future firmware update? I’ve read a lot of people in many forums saying that they too miss this feature.

Makes no sense to me why you’d remove it.

I see little value in sending you any sample footage. Just imagine the yaw starting/stopping abruptly, rather than easing smoothly into and out of the movement. Like I’ve said, adjusting the controller settings has noticeably helped, but it’s still not perfect.

My actual question isn’t being answered.

TL;DR

1) Why did you remove the Gimbal Synchronous Follow setting?

2) Will you be adding it back in a future firmware update?

I dont know where you found that people liked that setting. I made a few posts before where I asked people to show me the difference that setting made, no one was able to show me a difference. I made a couple of videos showing that this Synchronous Follow didnt make a difference if it was on or off. Many have claimed that it made the pan smoother but reasons why or how this makes it smoother do not make sence. If you find a video showing the difference between the setting being on or off makes, please let me know, I would love to see it.

Enable Synchronized Gimbal Pan Follow setting is in 'Gimbal Settings' / 'Advanced Settings'.

Does that answer your question ?

It just makes the gimbal yaw lag behind slightly to smooth out the abrupt start/finish of the turn. Makes sense. That or be able to make the craft turn the same way electronically, so even the most ham-fisted operator can get silky footage.

Yes!! That would make sence, but the way it works its the opposite. It advances the gimbal yaw slightly.

Also that video you shared shows the proper way it should work, but thats not how it works on the Mavic. I have done extensive research on this and I gave up cus no one cared that it doesnt work properly on the Mavic Pro lol.

I have seen videos where that’s the case, but wasn’t that a bug? I’m sure it’s supposed to work the way I described.

Well they need to fix it or offer an alternative. What’s the use of offering modes which smooth out all of the other movements... except yaw?

Look around, you wont find a video of the Mavic doing what that Phantom does in the video you shared. It only does it when you hold the Mavic by hand and turn it. If you turn it while in mid flight you will see it doesnt work.

Perhaps the removal of the gimbal pan follow on the M2's may have something to do with the ability to yaw the gimbal on the M2's  unlike the previous models which had gimbal pan follow but did not have gimbal yaw.

I get that. There’s clearly a bug then.

My fundamental premise is why isn’t there either a working version of Gimbal Synchronous Follow, or some other alternative way to smooth out abrupt yaw movements? We can soften everything satisfactorily expect yaw. Why?!

It’s very simple to smooth the Yaw, there are plenty of videos on here with very smooth Yaw movements. And cinematic moves will continue in raw with delayed breaking.

I know. I’ve seen the videos and done all the settings, and used all the different modes, but yaw could still be more gentle.

It’s not just me. Plenty of other people saying the same thing.

I know this is old. But I say the same thing: Where is Gimbal Yaw Synchronous Follow on the M2P? I had it on the P4P and it really made a difference smoothing out the starts and stops of pans.
