Wild pigs visit my back yard to eat my fallen avocados!  These are 4 of the current 16 running the 5 mile loop pig trail.  My friend was starting a Phantom Flying Session when he was interrupted - surprise!

     Really, and they think they own the place.  Did you notice they were not very afraid?  They used to come up to the top on the road and started acting like they own the place up here!  Then they started eating the ornamentals - that was it.  The girls declared war!  So now they are a drone experiment - and eating my avocados!  BTW, those are the best avocados.  Bigger than a softball, small seed and smooth as butter.

     I hope you noted that my friend was the cameraman.  He was starting a training session when they just walked in like they own the place.  He lives in the "Mother-in-Law" cottage off the garage.  The company he works for has a DJI Matrice 100.

     Well, it looks like you are going to have to come over here and get your bacon on the hoof.  Have you looked at the terrain over here?  We could have a ski resort over here if it snowed.  For me it only feels like it might snow.

Sitting here wishing that I was allowed to travel South of the 49th.

Maybe someday in the future, when things are somewhat more relaxed.

Ken, thanks for the post. Your friend really got quite close without scaring them off. Wouldn't like a visit of our wild pigs here to our garden... they love water lily ponds! How big do yours come?

Aloha john,

     Generally up to 100-150 pounds.  Anything larger than that and they get hunted.  But, these cute little guys do the most damage.  And they are oblivious to humans a lot of the time it seems.

     We are working on getting close to these pigs but this video was a total surprise.  My friend had started flying already in the area when these tweeners came on the scene with avocado on their mind - not drones!  LOL!  By his slow approaches and flitterbaiting around, he showed a lack of aggression and that information is not lost on the pigs, young and old.  They will quickly habituate to the drones now.  We expect more videos to be easier to get.

     It is just because my avocados are the best, bigger than a softball, small seed and smooth as butter.  We all love them, but we have to arm-wrestle the pigs for them, they get into avocado heaven!

     The avocados are Kahalu'u Avocados, but come from Kahalu'u on the Big Island.  Somebody planted them years ago over here on Oahu in Kahalu'u (each island has towns with the same name).  On the Big Island they recently got one of the avocados declared the Guinness Record holder - over 5 pounds.  One of my trees gives avocados that big but no one said anything about a record.  Poor tree is on the windward side of the six trees I have and looses most or all of its flowers every fall.  Still I have a photo somewhere of it, it was over 11 inches long and shaped like a rugby ball.  It weighed over 5 pounds on a fisherman's scale, so you know that must have been exaggerated!  Took over a week just to eat it!

     BTW, what is that on the Port side of your P4 Pro in your Avatar?  It looks like it is mated to the gimbal with the camera but gets placed in the opening of the Port Landing Skid.

That happen to me when I was in Kauai. Took off to shoot the waterfall

     Yes he is!  With the approach he used in the flight (not aggressive) we expect that it will be easier to get more video because the pigs are already habituating to the drones we fly here.

I guess not.  Anyone got an idea.  The SkyPixel PANO360s of the Mavic Air are so low resolution, they are not worth the effort.  Everything is giant block pixels.

     Hey, nice to hear from you again!  It would be nicer if the pigs did not like digging up and eating the ornamentals.  Oh well, everyone has to eat.  Pigs may be smart but they have no eye for ornamentals!
