The reason I ask..is that one of the comments from a YouTube review for a first look...seems to imply it doesnt as there is no mic adapter available yet.

There is a mic on the front and one one the back for vlogging, it has no connection for external mic, but there will be an add on for this.

The Osmo Pocket (which I assume you're referring to) has two mics and a 3.5mm jack adapter will be available in the future.

Will the external audio lead be a proprietory lead or can any USB-C to 3.5 inch be used - people are reporting these don't work. Or does the firmware need to be upgraded. Knowing when / why would be helpful.

I took mine to my band practice in a small studio, set it up in a corner, and the audio quality using the internal mics was pretty good, much better than I expected. My band mates were impressed, blown away actually.
