It would be nice to see some range tests with the new Mavic 2 (Pro or Zoom).

What is the maximum range (distance from the home point) that can be achieved in practice?
What is the optimum speed which enables the most economical usage of battery in order to achieve the maximum range?

Tests with documented evidences (e.g. flight records from DJI Go 4 app) will be much appreciated.

Hello and good day. Thank you for sharing your experiences regarding the range distance of your DJI Mavic 2 Pro and with the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom. For reference the max flight distance (no wind) is 18 km (at a consistent 50 kph) and the max flight time (no wind) is 31 minutes (at a consistent 25 kph). In addition I will be posting a link where you can find the specification of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro and the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom. Thank you for your support.

I don’t have any proof but under ideal conditions I flew out 15000 feet the mavic was at an elevation of 400 feet high. Ideal conditions were as follows, open, elevated field , no WiFi or other interference and partly cloudy skies with very little wind....

Did you try to change from 2.4GHz to 5.8GHz or vicce-versa?

I have just bought the Titan 3w boosted switch antenna for the Mavic 2 pro so I shall be posting up here soon on what distance I get compared to the rather bad CE mode stock, which is about 2 km tops before losing signal.

Hi, mine starts to lose signal at 1.8Km which is pretty rubbish. Is there any benefit to 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz? Could it be power lines? anyone flying near a city or powerlines?

I suggest to try another location and see if there is any difference. There may be a strong interference where you are now.

Try along the beach or out to sea, that way the interference is minimal.
I got 6300 meters one way along the beach with my mavic pro

Yes, I know, I saw your profile name.
I used to live in Marbella for 8/9 years myself before
Well what can I say, it sucks only 1.8km, but still I would try in a different place or to be sure, several places. If it doesn’t improve, I would try maybe on another device.
And if that doesn’t change anything, then I would wait for the CE to FCC switch for the mavic 2
On FCC you can fly the 8km that is advertised, CE mode is always much worse on DJI drones

Awesome! Impressive!

From your video someone can learn a lot. Surprise how you managed to return the last km with 0% battery. Also the cell voltage was about 3.4V while the percentage was at 0%.

By the way can you explain the two white lines shown in the photo below, was it actual a path flown before?

The M2 battery meter is very conservative and the 4s power system will happily fly down to 3.4v/cell.  At 3.3v there's about 30 seconds left.  For anyone worried about battery life, I have over 90 cycles on one pack and it's still going strong.

White lines are the previous flight for testing wind conditions.

Yes there is, from the manual, the power transmission for CE or FCC mode is greater at 2.4 ghz than at 5.8 ghz, so for distance alone, if there were no interference on either frequency, 2.4 ghz should give you greater range. Nearly all the boosted range extenders that are amplified you can buy from third parties work only in 2.4 ghz.

Mavic 2 Zoom 5Km across a lake in CE mode, could have gone a bit more but that was enough for me, 1.5Km in heavy wooded area.

Hi Captain Alex, I'm running the mavic on an android Samsung S9+. I don't understand CE or FCC, I see there is a choice of transmission frequencies and that there appears to be a difference in allowed distance between the USA and the rest of the world but how is it possible for such major differences between people distance experiences? If there are restrictions should DJI not claim 7Km as the available distance?

The power available for transmission between FCC ( USA ) and CE ( Europe ) is based on what those areas deem safe for radiation. The USA is less bothered at the amount of radiation given off by the controller.

The different distances are affected by a whole raft of different circumstances, including but not limited to, battery drain due to speed of the drone, background radiation from wifi routers which transmit on the same frequencies that drone controllers do, weather, humid conditions will absorb transmissions from your controller to some extent, interference from water surfaces scattering signals from your controller. As you can see there are probably 20 or so more things that can affect your range on top of the ones Ive noted.

I had my Zoom out 32,00 ft, a little over 6 miles or about 10 km one way and made it back with 5% battery. It will go over the 18km that they state.

Considering the new FAA rules for Recreational fliers.  It probably is not a good idea to post such tests if flown in USA.

Of course having a VO with constant eyes on the bird and instant communication would make it legal.

Doing these in remote uninhabited places doesn't pose much if any risk.
