FOUND DJI Spark Melbourne Australia

This morning I found a Spark sitting on the side of a busy road in the north western suburbs of Melbourne. Looks to be in "new" condition when compared to my own Spark which I have had for about 4 months.

Sadly I can't access any "flight data" as when I use the DJI app it brings up all my user history even though I have connected the found Spark  to my wifi.
No sd card installed.

Hope the owner reads this. I am not a FB or social media person so will not be posting there.

Any thoughts or ideas re contacting the owner?

I have read some posts and understand that DJI does not offer assistance in these kind of situations.

Greetings to all from Downunder.

Additional info:

Maybe it is not as "new" as I thought. Battery has been recharged 26 times.

If you plug the drone into a computer and turn on, are you able to extract any of the .DAT files?

But it’s flying ok?
Where do people in Australia post ads about lost things? Try posting there...
But you need to make sure that you give the drone to the real owner, otherwise anyone can tell you it’s his
Like ask some questions like, special remarks on the drone? Was there sd card in? How many charge cycles does the battery have, etc.
The person that lost it is probably devastated, just like me when I lost my first spark

Hello and good day Sulla. Thank you for reaching DJI Forum and for the information you have shared with us today. We do appreciate taking time bringing this query to us. We strongly recommend contacting your local police to report this. I believe your local police will contact FAA and from there they would be able to contact the owner. Thank you for your honesty and support.

In AU we don't have to register drones the weight of a Spark.

I have sent the serial number to DJI support to see if they can communicate with the owner.

I have contacted my local police who did not show much enthusiasm as there is no regulated drone registration for drones of the Spark's weight.  I have also sent the serial number to DJI support.

Wow! This person must be lucky that you out of all the people in Australia found it. I had my phone number and name on mine when I lost it and no returns yet. Anyway, good luck with locating the owner!

DJI support was very quick in contacting an "owner" and I received a very speedy response.

"Hey i have recieved an email saying you found my dji?"

I have replied:

Yes I have found a drone.

Can you please provide me with the following information:

1  WIFI SSID
2. Password
3. Serial Number
(The above will be on the packaging it arrived in.
4. Approximate location where it was lost.
5. Date it was lost.

Thanks mate.

I also asked approx how many times the battery had been recharged.
=========================================================

I have asked those questions to ensure it is the current owner and not a person who perhaps may have been the original owner who onsold the drone.

I will keep you informed.

Also DJI support said that "this is not an Australian version".

So perhaps it was sold on eBay etc.

Will keep you posted,

Or maybe it was lost by a tourist who is or was visiting Australia, and since it’s not the Australian version of the drone.
Just some thoughts.

Hi Mitchy,

It  appears you may have owned the drone in the past, but no longer own
it now.

Do you have the contact details of the current owner?
The person you sold it to?

I am trying to return this drone to the current owner.

Hey Mitchy,

What's going on

If I had lost my DJI I would be waiting desperately for the finder's
response to my email so that I could arrange collection.

You contacted me within 5 minutes of DJI's email to you, but you do not reply to my
email requesting the drone's info!

What's going on mate?
                 ?
LS

PS Where are you located?

Honestly, if I lost my drone and someone found it, I would have no clue the number of time my battery have been charged! lol! ask something else perhaps? serial number? He should know that for sure.

Had you read my entire post there would have been no need for your comment, as serial number plus other details were requested.
See point 3 in my post above,

As for batteries I have six batteries and try to manage their maximum life and efficiency.

Alex all replies from Mitch are shown above.

No colour was discussed.

I believe he was original owner in Tonga (as advised by DJI) and either he sold the drone or perhaps lost it, but he was unwiling / unable to provide any details of the drone that I requested.

I was referring to the part where you asked for the battery recharge number of time, that is pointless because the actual owner will probably not being able to remember that. I know I would not, especially if he lost it long ago. Maybe he lost it and someone found it and sold it on ebay. As for the password of the drone????? he also probably changed that long ago. All I am saying is that the serial number and the official owner registered on DJI site should be enough. Color of the drone and model is also good to ask.

Sorry but ENGLISH is NOT MY main language!

I know this may be impossible for everyone, because many owners throw their boxes after weeks of using the drone. So asking the serial may be a bit hard.
Is there a way to check the serial in the Go 4 app?

Ashiki do you have any evidence to support your statement?

Why would anyone throw away a Spark box? It is the perfect way to safely store  and carry your Spark.

So people throw away containers confirming their products serial number?

Did you throw out your iPhone / Samsung etc  box?

So how do they make a warranty claim etc?

Daniella3D. Your English is very good.

I asked many questions of the "owner" referred to me by DJI support.

Sadly Mitchy failed to even attempt to answer a single question and in his last respone abused
me. Read his message.

BTW the first thing I did when I received my Spark was take an image of the Spark's details on the box and also took an image of the Spark's details on the body under the battery.

If anyone has not done so, I urge you to do it now!

Without such information how can you prove the Spark is yours?

DO IT NOW!

I also urge you to affix your name and contact number to your drone!

Thank you all for comments.

Please note also:

This Spark was found within a "restricted / no drone" area in Melbourne.

It  is illegal to pilot a drone heavier than 100 grams (4 ozs) within 5.5 kilometres (3.42 miles) of an airport.

For Australians here please downlod the CASA app and check that where you propose to fly is ok.
