I've seen alot of distance videos but no height videos. I was just wondering if you could even see the drone at that height.I only have 45 minutes flight time. Still in beginner mode. I can hardly sleep long enough at night to go to work all week because I am so excited about this drone. Can you see the drone at 1600 feet without looking at your monitor?

I wouldn't know as it is a criminal offence in my country to fly a drone higher than 400' AGL.

This is a silly question, you should remove it.  Even in beginners mode you should know how far away you can see the drone.  You should look up the Drone Code to see that VLOS is a requirement, just about everywhere.

You can see MA daytime to about 200m (600ft) if you have good eyes and know where to look.
By night never tested.
Remember, flying over 400 feet altitude is illegal in most countries. If you are interrested about the landscape from 1600feet, open Google Earth

Fly at 1600ft the only thing you are likely to see would be the inside of a jail cell. It is illegal in most countries to fly higher than 400 feet don't let your excitment cloud your judgement. It is not worth standing in front of a judge trying to justify why you broke the law potentially endangering manned aircraft. Now is it.

And if you want to know, it all depends on the weather, the hight, the distance and day or night.
I can see mine at 120m high, 500m out  on a good day. On a bad day, at 120m it will be invisible to the eye.

I am not sure how 1,600 above you would not be "Straight Up".

This is a silly question and shows no regard for other users of the air space.  Try visualizing a small plane hitting your drone at say 1,000 ft.

I doubt you'd be able to see it without some kind of strobe lights attached to it. Drones are often tough to spot at even just an altitude of 400 feet.

Hi, thanks for the inquiry. We would recommend flying your drone in VLOS and in an open area to avoid the incident. Thank you for continued support.

Note that in the US, the 400' height limit is above the object/building/tower you are filming.  As long as you are following all the other UAS restrictions.

Not sure the FAA could find a pilot that would go for that.

Yes, but a stupid question. Please read the drone code or whatever they call it in the respective country and the manual. This hobby has been restricted so much over the last couple off years due to stuff like this. Just look at the news lately - Gatwick Airport closed due to idiots with drones and a whole host of other needless acts that further jeopardize this hobby from across the globe. If only people did their research before buying a drone and read the manual once they do buy one, half of these posts would not be on here. Think about it people.

Legal or illegal I done it and you really really are not missing out on anything..and beyond 400 feet AGL is manned aircraft territory so kinda stupid anyway.

as for flying beyond visual line of sight, personally I don’t mind this as much as long as keep it below 400 feet and smart about the environment and weather conditions and how rapidly they can and do change specially on such a small aircraft you be surprise how just a small of a change can impact battery life and flight performance and connection capabilitilities..

Am I right in thinking I can take off on top of a hill and fly 400ft above me then fly forward across a valley and be 800ft above ground level legally?
Conversely I could take off in the valley and let the drone ascend up the side of a 400ft hill and be 20ft above ground level at all times but break the law when the drone reaches 420ft above me?

"The FAA keeps it quiet, but the 400 feet rule has more to it. It goes on to say that as long as you are within 400 feet of a structure, things like a radio tower, you can fly up to 400 feet above the structure. ... To keep things simple, try to stay below 400 feet above the ground that is directly below the drone."

No, you are wrong. It is 400ft above ground (or object) level. That means if you are on a hill, go 400ft above ,  then you go forward, you should lower the drone according to the slope of the hill to stay 400ft agl.

If you go forward and get 800ft agl, technically you break the rule

I have flown over 6,ooo feet above me. It was a very beautiful veiw! I even seen whay seems to me, was the pearly gates into heaven, a carpet of clouds with the golden sun shining upon them. No, i am NOT in jail
