If I want to grab the files off  the drone (I've got the Zoom) should I remove the gimbal guard?  My desk is rather crowded.  I do not want to expose the camera/lens to the desk debris but I know the camera/gimbal move around when the Zoom is powered up.

Will leaving the gimbal guard on create problems.  Same issue when updating firmware from the computer.

Never leave the gimbal protector on when the bird is switched on!!! This will overload the gimbal motors and harm them if done a bunch of times.

Sheesh, cleaning my desk is probably harder than buying a new drone!  Just kidding - maybe.

Hi there. We highly recommend you to take-off the Gimbal Protector when turning-on the Aircraft and especially when updating the drone to avoid any trouble. If there is any help needed, please let us know. We're here to help. Thank you.

I remove the gimbal guard whenever I power the Mavic up to avoid any problems.

Gimbal guard needs to be removed each time you power on your aircraft, in order to avoid gimbal overload when it's motors are on.

Always remove when powering on, else you risk damaging the gimbal motors

Perhaps next rendition of Mavics could have automatic Gimbal lock and Eyelid (clear lens cover)?

On power-on Gimbal is unlocked, and locked upon power-off.

Eyelid serving purpose of both protecting Gimbal system from moisture, dust, debris, and impact damage, and protecting camera lens too.
Eyelid having two modes of operation.  Auto uncover when recording video or taking pictures.  Manual uncover or cover.

Id go with a no. The aircraft has to be powered on when grabbing data or updating, so that gimbals gonna rock around inside that protector leading to all sorts of issues.
