interesting
i wonder what drone is it if Dji then its moded as u cant fly near airports as NFZ
but the pilot is surely far i say 2km perhaps
so catching him will be tough unless u get a drone to follow him and see where his lands

yea i never thought it will cuz such delays and shooting it down is easier
and i feel drone laws will be more strict now which is sad as i want to fly mines in London and parts of Europe too

IF we think our range is terrible now, just keep posting illegal flights here and on youtube. They will limit us to beginner range if that. IN the US the FAA and Homeland Security monitor these forums and are getting a picture of what the drone pilots are doing. This isnt paranoia. They've said as much, and the picture isn't pretty from what they read.

Is that real or it's a hoax? More than one drones? and when they get close to finding the operator the drones disappear and then reappear? does not make much sense.

the problem is, even if the completely ban all the drones on earth, it will not stop people like that to use a drone to shut down an airport. This is an illegal activité that seem to be done on purpose. Are they on strike or something? who would have an interest in shutting down an airport?

Definitely not a hoax... Personally I think it's a couple of teenagers messing around and having no idea of the consequences of their actions.

Hi folks,

Because if these idiots flying at Gatwick airport we'll surely face even stricter rules for drone flights in the future, I bet.
And we see how difficult (and inefficient) drone defense systems are.
I really hope they get them and put them into jail.

Cheers,

The authorities seem pathetically underprepared to deal with a situation like this. They've only just deployed Aeroscope. The army must have a way of dealing with it but we can't be calling them in every time a rogue drone shows up. Local police and airports need to be educated and equipped to deal with rogue drone pilots, it's very obvious they didn't know what they were doing when this kicked off.

haha lol yes I thought of those too, but rubber bullets have an effective range of about 100m and not very accurate.. maybe just follow it with a real helicopter using imaging technology...

a Thermal Camera should do the trick as the motors give off heat and other parts so it will be seen easily

To be honest, I´m not sure that is the picture of the actual "drone" over Gatwick.. It was in a news paper but who knows, I´ve tried to find other footage or pictures and can't find any.. perhaps it was a Chinese Lantern and not even a drone???

This madness has already affecting us here in Canada. There was an article today in the Press from a stupid journalist saying that this will also happen here in Canada if we don't completely ban all drones.  It's like saying ban all the cars in the world because one stupid person used a car to rampage into people and kill a bunch. Yes that can happen but most drivers are not maniac and drive responsibly.

Those at the airport should have their own big mighty drones and go take those drones down. Since there was 2 drones, there is most probably 2 persons controlling them.

What's really crazy is the people calling for an extension of the rule limiting "Drones" from flying within 1 KM of an airport. I think I read where they want to extend it to 5 KM. How is that going to stop the people who are obviously NOT following the current rules. Stricter rules won't change the behavior of people who don't follow the rules anyway.

No, I think the opposite,

The owners of the airports (they are private) are going to lobby hard to bring in new regulations as they dont want this kind of thing to effect profits/share prices in the future.

Strange!

There is no picture evidence from just ONE drone.
And they were saying, 40+ sightings.
No reporter was at the right place, at the right time?
And the military could not shoot one down, because the bullets could  have left the airport area.
But on top, the army, which was there to protect the airfield from such stuff, does not have drone guns (jammer).
On top,  there is no suspect anylonger.

What are we supposed to think about this?

Incompetence or ....?

Agree it's pretty strange that there is no official photo of the drone.

At the moment without real evidence, it's a UFO.

So strange: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-46670714

"During a conference call between ministers, chaired by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, it was agreed the 67 drone sightings were legitimate.

But over the weekend, a senior police officer said it was a "possibility" there had never been a drone."

I anyway have trouble with the fact that 2 days a airport gets closed b/c of a lot of drone sightings, but no one, neither the police, army, BBC, nor any other journalist or any plane(drone;-)spotter can present a real picture of a drone INSIDE the extended airport area.
Heym this is 2018, literally EVERYONE has a videodevice in the jacket, someone HAS to be close enough to put that thing on video.

Or like the net is saying:
pics or it didn't happen

actually, a bit o.o.T:

Isn't it  strange? since everyone HAS a photo/video device in the pocket, the sightings of alien spaceship wenn almost to "0".
Do we have to assume that the aliens are more carefull, now?
Perhaps they hiding now in drone alike spaceships?
With timelord technology, "It's bigger on the inside"

Merry X-mas to all

And may the force be with us!
