Is it ok to leave the MA on for an hour and a half to download a video?  The fan stays on.

Yea should be fine, got active cooling if it does get too hot it will turn itself off to protect itself anyway.  

I left mine on until the battery died to do a slow dull drain because I wanted to try to force a calibration on the battery it took well over an hour and have no issues to report from doing so.

Is it not easier to remove the SD card and download directly from that?

yes...very well would be easier, probably faster.... and not require using battery power up doing so.. but..... maybe she doesn't have a micro SD card reader/adapter/who-it-whats-it  on her while working?  i dont know

Yeah I actually forgot to copy it to my desktop which is a lot faster.
