Just curious if Flyaways are a really problem with a huge amount of incidents, or it's rarely happaned in some cases that we can avoid with a bunch of neccecery precoutions?

P.S. I posted a list of fliying preparation in a reply. If you have something to add, you are welcome to do so!

I picked "I am an Ace" even though I am not because you never provided an option for No Flyaways. Never had a Flyaway (fingers crossed)

What's a flyaway?  I always manually fly it home like all my model airplanes.  It lands in my hand every time.  "Good puppy.  Have a treat/new battery."

So far I didn’t have a single flyaway either on my mavic pro or my spark.
Let’s hope that it stays this way forever!

While I have not had anything I would call a fly-away, I have had two incidents of lost control, both I consider to be of my own failt. One water damage caused (got too close to a large wave) and the other was flying outside of normal temperature range (108+ deg). I was able to regain control on the second one after it hit my pre-programed max altitude.  Now I keep a bit more distance from waves and don’t fly on the hotter days.

It seems like I lose signal all the time and the drone initiates rth. After a few seconds control comes back and I navigate back. Of course as I say that yesterday I lost my spark yesterday.  It lost signal then had magnetic interference then never reconnected. Bummer.

Same here - RTH is almost never used (the only time that I used it was when I was testing to see if it worked!)

So do I!

Let's repeat all basic steps we do before taking off.
1. Check the propellers and their connection to the motors.
2. Remove gimbal protector before turning drone on (If you haven't one, you should buy it).
3. Turn on remote controller, connect the phone and run DJI Go 4. (You should turn Airplane mode on your phone. If someone calls and you accidently answer it definitely may cause Flyaway.)
4. Install drone on the flat solid clear spot and turn it on.
5. Check all messages in DJI GO. If it shows "Compass Interferentions", you should search another place to fly.
6. Remember that cold weather can forbid you to take off. In this case you should keep your battery near your body to save it warm.
7. Calibrate the compass. You should remove all metal things from your body. Keep phone on the distance from the drone. Follow the instructions.
8. Set up Return to Home point, RTH altitude, maximum distance and maximum altitude. Also you should turn on "RTH at current altitude".
9. Check the number of satellites and type of flying mode. If satellites are less than 8, it shows you ATTI mode. Be careful to fly in that mode when it windy. Also when connection is lost between drone and RC, drone doesn't do RTH in ATTI mode and Flyaway by wind.
10. Take off and hover. Check all messages. Check conditions of hovering drone. If it drift in arbitrary directions, jaw, rotate - something is wrong, land it immediately.
11. If it's all right then slowly increase altitude at about 10 metres without moving in any direction.

After that you can do your flying plan.

Cold weather can cause some dysfunctions with our drones either. Whether  it can't take off if battery isn't warm enough or it may provoke interruption of flight in process when drone will reach high altitude (Let God save us from that).

I've just read your post. Sorry for your loss. Some issues that you had in last flight could be summoned by long distance (when you didn't  have drone in sight) and Sport Mode.
Unfortunately, we can't set up "Landing" as a Failsafe Options for ATTI Mode. So drone just continue to drift by wind and it complicates his searching.
I suggest first we should do in that cases is turning of Sport Mode even if it means that drone haven't enough battery to return. Better use SM in controllable way than in Failsafe RTH.

Before I fly, I always check GPS count and check for any obstacle that may impede LOS. Then I always just hover til I am sure there is no interference in the area I fly at. Also I make sure the battery is securely locked as some battery latches have been known to fail atleast as I have viewed at youtube.

Yeah, I know. But it's not my fault. It appeared after Poll was posted and I can't  remove it nor edit. Supposed that Forum administrators fix that problem but they didn't.

As we can see, in huge amount of cases there are fault of the pilot not a drone. But we are still watching the result of the poll.

No I'm not an Ace, but so far, no flyaways.  Just being careful and make sure that there's enough satellite reception + no error messages before takeoff.

That is a good news. As we can see in this pool, most pilots haven’t had the issue. And it gives us hope.

well not really, lol but as 31# said i just be careful and when i notice something wrong going on i just get it back as soon as i can and maybe if its something not really bad, but maybe am extra conscious.  i was able to record a friend wedding inside a big hall on ATTI mode with zero issue.

Absolutely - I've flown 10 DJI drones more than a total of 1,000 miles in the past 2-3 years. Never lost a prop, never experienced a fly away.
