Had been discussing the Polar Pro Gimbal Guards on another link.  Last night I searched the wide-wonderful-wicked-web & found them in Oz.  So I decided to order a couple,  $30 each plus $10 P&H.

This morning I go to check a couple of EXP settings on the flying machine,  remove the gimbal guard,  and lo & behold,  it's cracked AGAIN !
DJI,  you GG's are very poor quality IMO.  This is a replacement for the previous one that also cracked in the same place.......  and had little gentle use !

Might be better off with the push on type such as https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fdr-and-tobans. Also see them called Lens Stable Cover Camera Guard Protector Gimbal Lock for DJI Phantom 4 Pro. Bit of a mouthful what?

Flimsy plastic isn't it?

It seems to be too brittle.
I am thinking of repairing this with epoxy or silicone.  Silicone may be best because of a bit of flexibility ?
In the meantime I have the Polar Pro's on the way...........
Cheers

Arhh,  that's better.
I'll see how the others go - as I have ordered them already - and if they don't prove satisfactory then I'll have a look at those in your posted link.

I like the idea of the Polar Pro (the ones I have ordered) as they also accommodate a filter.  A bonus !

I know absolutely zip about 3D printers and really don't have any intention of becoming involved,  but:  How do you get on with obtaining the desired strength,  flex,  rigidity ?   Is that determined by the type of filament you use ?  Do have good control over the final product in regard to strength & flexibility ?

Just interested - that's all.

It depends on the fill rate you choose.
Given the piece to be made, a 20% filling should meet the need. I have not printed it yet but I will test.

The DJI gimble guards are hard to put on and they break very easily. I bought a Polar Pro one and it is much easier to put on than DJI's, also its made with thicker plastic so its much more durable. https://www.amazon.com/PolarPro- ... mbal+lock+phantom+4

you would think with them protecting hundreds of pounds worth of equipment they would be able to protect themselves.

Can you leave a filter on ?

I wouldn't say as much support because it doesn't have the legs, but if you are keeping in its original Styrofoam box, the polar pro does its job, I have been using mine for about 2 years now and no problems yet. Also yes it does fit with filters on, that was one of the reasons i got mine since I normally keep an ND16 filter on mine.

I have had the same issue but mine broke where the guard clamps onto the landing gear/legs. It breaks off and will no longer secure to one of the legs (usually). I have had two of them break on two different Phantoms.

Here is the result :
The piece is really very solid and flexible enough (I did not choose the finest resolution).
My only problem is that it does not fit well on my gimbal. Indeed, this model is for P4 and I have a P4P !!!!
The gimbals are not quite the same. I'm going to modify the model so that it fits on my gimbal.
The original gimbal gard of my P4P is not broken but I will still print one just in case!

When you get the P4P guard printed it would be interesting to see how it stands up to the rigors of daily use.
Keep up the good work.   I find it very interesting & a welcome break from ... ... ... ... ...

And I have found that the original UV filter/cover can at times be quite difficult to get off,  it seems to be affected changes in temp.  So lately I fit it rather losely.

I bought this one and returned it because it was too snug. It had to put a lot of pressure on the gimbal to get it on...which worried me.

I went with the polar pro(with the legs hehe) one as well as their filters 12 months ago. I have found their kit fit for service... used in bright sunlight, hot temps(desert areas for 12 months). Sure hope it keeps going on.
Forget silastic, used high strength Araldite with a small cloth bandage to offer more strength... IMO

Thanks for the advice Cradoka,  I gave up the idea of repairing the old guard.  Silicone didn't really want to adhere sufficiently well & I though good ole 'Arold'  would have been too rigid.

Cheers
