In Australia it is  illegal for private people to buy and light fireworks. Only commercial licensed operators can display fireworks.
So what a great sight to see so many people light their own fireworks all over the city!

Spacetrakker, I am really shocked what you have written. In my deep mind I wouldn`t think that there are countries where buying and lighting fireworks is forbidden by common citizens.
In Poland we consider not to lighting fireworks, because of the pets (especially dogs), which are frightened of the explosion noises of lighted fireworks.
Many main offices of cities in Poland resign with lighting fireworks. They replaced them by laser display. But many other people can still light fireworks, so these cities offices approach is so so.
In Poland only people over 18 can purchase fireworks, but I don`t know if it is observed by fireworks shops.
