A personal record for me was about 500 feet, nothing spectacular, but since this is a new toy for me I'm afraid to let it out of my sight

My record is 3531 meters one way and 7170 meters the whole flight.
I think the Spark can do 4 km easily.
It all depends on your setup.

I've traveled a maximum of 5202 ft distance from my location. I have about 6 flights in my log that show at least 3000 ft distance. Several of these flights were in populated suburban areas. I make sure I have a good GPS lock before heading out, and keep a close eye on my wifi signal strength as distance increases.  I also make sure I've panned around to verify I'm above all obstructions, and set the RTH altitude value accordingly. If I get down to two bars or less or video gets choppy, I increase altitude and double check that I'm holding the controller in such a way that the antennas are exactly perpendicular to where the drone is. I found I can adjust the angle I'm holding the controller and see the effects on wifi signal pretty quickly, and make small adjustments to optimize it. I also use an OTG cable and put my iPad or iPhone in Airplane Mode after the map has downloaded and before taking off.

I could probably go farther but have not removed the distance limitation setting in the app. Maybe one day if I'm feeling brave...

19,256 feet. That is not 1 way. It’s round trip.

Well, as I live in the UK im a little restricted but i think my best in a straight line is around 350 - 400metres, i mean its pretty tricky to see the little guy even at 300M!!!

Why don’t you change to FCC and remove the restriction?
I mean that’s what I did, and now I think that flying the Spark in CE mode is just plain dangerous!

Haha well that is a thing i know people have done but i'd have no idea how to do that if im honest. Is it not a risky thing to do either?

no, it's not. But you should have an Android device for that operation.

It’s really easy to do. Just watch some YouTube videos on how to do it.
And it’s perfectly safe and it’s even much much better to fly in FCC mode than CE.
Me personally, I will never again fly in CE mode if you can change from CE to FCC ofcourse.
For example, I think that you still can’t do that on the mavic 2
