I have just updated to the latest version of DJI GO 4 4.3.12 on IOS and booted up my Mavic 2 Pro - waypoints is now listed as one of the flight modes and it looks great - very similar to litchi. No firmware update seems to be needed to use it.

Wait for weather improvement to try it (in a wide open space)

Not for a very, very long time - nearly lost my P3P back in 2016 using it and deleted the app straight away. This new version on GO 4 looks good enough - quite similar to GSP.

I can imagine.
Still I hesitate to try waypoints.
Here in NL we 'must' be in control of our drone and I'm not sure if waypoints flights count as being 'in control'

It should be ok as you can pause/end the WP mission by pressing the red X on the RC then resume full manual control. Just be sure to set your radius within VLOS I guess.

It's fun but a bit scary at first knowing that your drone is effectively flying itself! But that is why they call it a drone I guess.

Waypoints 2 would be much more useful with two changes. 1) let me plan a waypoint mission WITHOUT the aircraft being turned on (wasting battery) and store the mission on my mobile device for upload to the aircraft later. 2) Provide ability to set waypoint altitudes AGL, not just above takeoff point. This would make flying safer.

Agreed on both counts and given that the first point can be achieved on other WP apps I think that is possible however, I doubt we'll see point 2 come to fruition anytime soon given that the aircraft telemetry is also based above the HP and not the real time AGL.

Tried it today. One problem, i can't exit the waypoint mode by pressing the X-sign. It just stay's on. Only when i'm changing the flightmode with the switch, the waypoint mode is ended.
