I made HDR video with Osmo Pocket.
You may say it's pointless but I just did it for fun.

HDR001.JPG
Title is Walking into the sun.

Well I am tired of cold winter and want to shooting some warm looking pictures.
Also testing pocket's high DR in this shadowey situation.

HDR002.JPG
I kept the setting simple. Pro-mode and auto setting. Only changed exposure compensation depending on the scene.
it was 4K 60fps.

HDR003.JPG
I originally wanted to try this when D-Cinelike is updated but well couldn't wait.

HDR004.JPG
I made both HDR and SDR video so you can compair for fun.
HDR rendering took almost 4~5 times longer than SDR.

HDR005.JPG
HDR006.JPG
Make things worse, I don't have HDR monitor. So I have to render sample clip to check it on my LG OLED TV. Time consuming indeed.

HDR007.JPG
After rendering, TV properly recognizes video and play it in HDR mode.

1. Well higher peak brightness of HDR makes clip look much better.
2. Not sure excatly why but some color in highlihgt and shadow that was blown out in SDR are recovered in HDR.

You can check the HDR version of video here :
(But if you watch it on SDR display, it will look darker.)

You can check the SDR version of video here :

If you watched both video on SDR display, SDR version would look better. Youtube do nice job auto color mapping HDR version for SDR display but cannot beat the manually colored SDR version.

If you watched both video on HDR capable display, I agree with you that although HDR version is more pop and lively but SDR version still more cinematic and hold its mood.

I did not understand how it is possible to shoot HDR videos with the osmo Pocket.

Well long stroy short, I just put the Osmo Pocket footage into the HDR container in the post workflow so the HDR capable TV can play it in HDR mode.

I am glad you enjoyed it.

I used Premiere Pro to render the footage in HDR 10, Rec. 2020 Color Primaries at the export setting. To utilize the much higher peak brightness of HDR I tweaked the HDR specular in the Lumetri color panel.

You are welcome. To me the real capablity of OP is that it is alway in your pocket when the shot is infront of you.

Beside coloring for HDR speculation, you need to select HDR10 profile in encoding setting and check both HDR and rec. 2020 color profile check boxes.

Since most people watch video on a phone, most of the time, this is probably unnecessary.

True but I am making it to watch it on my big screen OLED TV.
Also HDR capable phones like Galaxy S9 above or Pixel XL can watch HDR videos almost properly.

Hi~
It is actual HDR video because I added HDR meta data into the video, so HDR capable player and screen device can kick in the HDR brightness and HDR color depth.

However my HDR mastering skill is just casual level even if the video is HDR format, picture can be fall short of expectation.
But HDR specular brightness is actually way more bright than SDR version that is for sure if you have HDR capable TV or smart phone (+setting maximum brightness)
