My interpretation is that I greatly underestimated the wind speed.  It was painful to watch as the drone (I just had repaired recently) flew away over the Mexican border.  Flight log attached.

It’s difficult to view this on an iPad, but there are several interesting things to see.

Someone will surely analyze this.

Once acrosss the line, it sure flew a long way. Lost contact with the rc, was in RTH mode, then, it stopped transmitting.

Looks like you nailed it yourself.   It seemed to be fighting back but couldn't make it.  Right on the outer edge of signal too.    Maybe one of those migrants will pick it up.

It seems like a no brainer, not to fly so close to the border lines.

I wonder if there was some kind of interference purposely set up, just to screw over a private rc drone flight...

Actually went there specifically to fly, after researching that the air space was clear to fly in.  I also spoke with a border patrol agent and told him I was there to fly my drone.  The agent indicated I was free to do so.

Permission or not, it’s probably a Dangerous place to hang around. Evidently...

Just an opinion, but with the issues over the border right now, I can't imagine wanting to fly over it. I'm sure your curious, but this is most certainly has disaster written all over it to me. Whether legal or even if border patrol said it was ok, I doubt you will ever see your aircraft again. sorry for your lose.

There has been reports of drones smuggling drugs across the border.

The border Patrol has sound sensors EVERYWHERE out there.  My family and I have ridden dirt bikes out there for years......there is a TON of interference out there, and it is illegal to fly within a couple miles of the border in San Diego County, specifically due to the drug smuggling issues.

As soon as you started drifting, BEFORE you lost signal you needed to put in sport mode and fly back to yourself......I know ,    HIND SIGHT

I wont fly my P4P in those wind speeds unless i had to, about 22mph average and upto 30mph gusts

It was a bad day at the drone park...

That pressure gradient clearly shows the prevalent patterns and problems but only if one were to pay attention. Nice share Air America.

Surely it's faster than RTH normal speed if you push the stick?
