Is it safe to leave the gimbal guard on while powering on the drone for setting waypoints or getting files of the drone?
I see a warning so I guess it’s OK?

No. The gimbal lock left on can overheat the camera also may tilt the camera horizon.

Never leave it on while powering up

the camera does a setup dance while powered on why would you leave the lock in place and cause possible damage by not letting it move when the internals are telling it to

Hello and good day TrippleDelta. Thank you for the inquiry. You can fly the drone with the Gimbal cover, but never fly the drone with the Gimbal lock because the  camera might get broken. Thank you.

I would advise against it. It will most likely damage the gimbal when doing this.
