I want to buy a new Imac and I want to know if I'm able to edit the H.265 files wihtout creating proxys ?

• 3.5GHz quad-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.1GHz
• 16GB 2400MHz DDR4
• 512GB SSD
• Radeon Pro 575 with 4GB video memory
• If someone has one of this computers can you let me know how is the editing experiance ?

My main workstation Computer is this
Intel i9 7980xe (overclocked to 4.5Ghz under custom loop watercooling)
128GB DDR4 Gkill ram
Nvidia RTX 2080 ti.2TB NvME SSD internal storage and bunches of External SSDs

4k 10bit H.265/HEVC is absolutely bonker in Premiere CC. Without proxy and 1/8 preview resolution without effects and it won't even playback in 10fps.
I had to create either DNxHR or H. 264 proxy.

My computer can run H.264 EXTREMELY fast, render and export time is faster than real time. H. 265 is like 500x slower.

I also have a 2018 15" Macbook pro. (6C/12T i9 CPU, 32GB Ram, 2TB SSD and with AMD RX Vega64 eGPU attached.)
H.265 in FCPX also very slow, need create ProRes proxy for editing as well.

Damn Darkinners! Great setup! I may have to pick your brain a little. (sorry for changing the subject) Looking for a small 13-14 inch laptop powerful enough to edit short 4k videos while on vacation. Do you think a Lenovo, Yoga 920, i7, 16GB RAM would be enough to edit 4k or would I be disappointed.

My main concern is the Intel® UHD Graphics 620 is not enough GPU. Any thoughts?

Depends on which codec you working on. For the Lenovo
H.264 4k is fine even without proxy.
Intel UHD 620 support quicksync(IIRC) , which supports hardware acceleration for H.264 and H.265
You will have better render/export time but the encoding quality is not as good as software encoding, whilst it is not a huge difference.

There are plenty of reports of H265 4k editing efficiently on lesser machines than yours.

I totally agree that it is very intensive processing but even a 2018 15 inch Macbook pro with Hexacores and seperate moderate GPU can do so. - Something like a Razer Blade should have little issues.

I have a feeling something may be creating a bottleneck in your system?

Ovi, the most important thing is to get the best machine you can afford - H.265 does NOT compromise! However, there are some other things you can do to make your computer work better with video all together.
