I love my new Mavic Air in every way. A huge advantage over my formerly beloved Phantom 3 Standard however I am starting to question if I should be shooting in 4 K. I only post my little videos on YouTube and it is nowhere near the same quality as I put out. Even when I downgrade to 2.7 it will take it and dumb it down. Am I missing something or should I be posting somewhere else?

From what i have seen on youtube it does downscale your videos but you can use video editors that upload to youtube in 4k, but I presume it also has to do with the data line speed transfer rate, i can be wrong.

YouTube compresses all video.

You really need to render/save the video from an editing programme, they usually have YT export settings so it gets compressed in a better way for YT

Certainly. 4k looks much better than HD (if done right). 4 times the resolution, there is no comparison, even on compressed YT.

FB is the worst. It ruins a good video's quality. YT is not as bad but even with a good BB connection speed, the blocking on 2.5 / 4k is shocking sometimes. best off keeping it at 1080 60fps for sharing.

Sorry but I disagree.

Whilst it is obvious that compressed YT 4k is not as good as native, one look at some good examples will make the difference very obvious.

Some supposed HD FPV quad footage and some DJI footage on YT is awful. Given, not all footage is bad but for your basic social media upload it's good enough.

Shooting in 4k allows you to crop and zoom your footage without losing definition.  I always shoot everything in 4k but output into 1080p for uploading to YT.

It takes longer to upload and to process 4K files but it definitely worth it if you are watching on 4K capable screen. Just yesterday I uploaded 4K60fps 2 min clip and 4k was available this morning.
